I Gloucester, Massachusetts [http://www1.whdh.com/news/articles/local/BO123132/] man drove all the way to Madison, Wisconsin (a journey of over a thousand miles) to meet an underage boy who he solicited while playing WOW. Apparently upon arrival he claimed to be an officer and wished to speak to the boy but when his mother asked for ID he returned to his car and produced a gun. Luckily he was quickly arrested and no one was hurt but am I the only one who thinks this is the most pathetic thing you have ever heard?
Honestly what did he think was going to happen? He could waltz in do something unspeakable and waltz out?
Is he a sick man in need of medical and psychological care or a cold, dark cage for life?

I agree with Greyfox105, it's not sad, it's disturbing and scary. Sad would be if he broke down crying and confessed his eternal love to the underage boy and said they were meant to live together forever.

Now people maybe were overreacting, maybe he isnt a pedophile, rather he was just getting revenge for having his level 70 Elf Mage defeated by the kid, thats perfectly reasonable isnt it?

Crazy people are crazy.
Interesting fact: crazy people also partake in common activities that millions of other people partake in as well, such as World of Warcraft.
Shocking isn't it?
I hear that 9 out of 10 rapists prefer Gears of War to Halo as well.

What a pleasant story.

There's nothing sad or pathetic about it, the man is a dangerous, insane person.

I've never played WoW ... I have also never smoked and I don't drink or do anything else that is habit-forming or harmful to my body [that I know of anyway]

Hold on, let me get this straight, this dude drove to this kid (who he had been harassing on wow) to have sex with him? Or just to play a game? Either way he posses a significant threat to the boys family, those around him, and himself. Dude needs to put where he can't hurt anyone until it's safe to let him out.

On the subject of his disease I have this to say:

"To ere is human, to forgive divine"

Lets not go around killing people just because there's something wrong with them (and I use that term lightly), why don't we instead try helping people like that? Calling them sick and deranged (while it may be true) doesn't help anyone, it only serves to increase the stigma surrounding mentally ill people, which in tern drives them further from society and the help they need.

Also, at the bottom of the article doesn't it say;

I get the impression this thread seems to imply that WoW is partially to blame for the mindframe of this man, and indeed to blame for the endangerment of the child.

While this was a horrible event for the family, this kind of thing could have happened over any online game or forum on the internet, heck even on the escapist. The thing is this child's parents are slightly to blame for leaving their child to talk to strangers unsupervised. That was completely irresponsible.

People (especially parents) (generally speaking), should stop blaming games like this for when psychos use them as a bridge to contact children and other potential victims of their crimes, and instead perhaps take responsibility and do their role as parents a bit better and make sure their kids don't give out personal details over the internet, and if they can't manage that then keep their kids off the internet.

As for this psycho, he is clearly a dangerous individual who needs some form of rehabilitation.

You can't help people like that. Cage him! People will think what they will, and feel the urges that they feel. That cannot be helped. But people who act upon it are the sick ones. If a person is attracted to kids, that's not their fault, but those who act on it, and molest the children, they are monsters. The cage! I say again.

How did he find out where the kid lived? This anger that made him drive miles to meet someone was caused by being blocked a year ago?

Fucking stupid.

Edit: Best gonzo post evar! (except it's not though is it...)

He needs a bullet to the brain, all pedophiles (who act upon their urges. I mean, if you are a pedophile but decide to NEVER look at CP or molest children or "take care of business" to children, it's still quite weird that you get horny over them, but still, it's better then acting upon your urges) are sick monsters.

Basically this. This is basically what I think. Of course, I replace "caged" with "execution" but, I've always had quite radical opinions.
