And I don't have a problem with strange urges, as long as they don't act out on them, in a way that hurts others. As for mental illness, I don't believe in it. People are just different, they aren't sick, just different. And I don't believe you can counsel that difference out of them. You might force them to repress some of their urges, but that'll only get you so far, it'll still be there. So remove the people who act on their weird and harmful urges, and let the rest be.
