SR3 is prettier than SR2 but pretty much inferior in every other way.

Saints Row 2 had three well defined gangs with their own well defined territory and a natural progression as the game went along, taking territory after territory, unable to purchase businesses in an area until you had control of it gave the expansion even more purpose. Each of the three gangs had a well defined story progression that added three well meshed side stories to the overall campaign and there was clear benefit to defeating each gang in turn.

In SR3, there are no defined borders, the storyline is shoddy at best, and there is no real benefit to doing anything story related. They have substituted progressive story telling missions for forced participation in the mini games from the last game rather than actually have the writers spend more than an afternoon coming up with a plot. What plot there is is marred by crappy disjointed cutscenes, some of which appear to be missing, with no attempt at coherent continuity.

Example 1: The unexplained cutscene with the woman cutting the ribbon on the bridge while the saints watch for some unknown reason only to be rushed by the Luchadores. The conversation afterwards involves Shaundi saying that Killbain is going to die for what he did at Johnny's funeral. Funeral? What funeral? He had a funeral? They never even definitively said what happened to him. You fell out of the jet in the beginning and started milk run missions with only a couple hints that he was even dead.

Example 2: After Killbain kills one of the Dewinter twins, a couple of missions later, Zimos is still referring to them as "the Dewinter sisters". Really? Next youll be telling me I need to put the squeeze on Mr. Loren.

The clothing options were far better in SR2, there are about half the options in 3 that there were in two. Also, automotive customization felt so much more in depth before. Even with the different levels of durability you can purchase in 3, it feels like it's just a pointless money sink to get me to the same place a single purchase got me in the last game.

SR2 was a great mesh of mayhem, fun and story that made me feel like I had power and authority as I slaughtered the masses, SR3 is nothing more than a shiny fuck around engine that is already getting old while I get forced into another crap mini game in place of a purpose driven mission and when I finish that, I'll have nothing on the map to show for it.

I am a die hard fan of the series and I was looking forward to SR3 since they announced it but overall it is just a cash in on the popularity of the second installment.

P.S. The music in SR2 was also better.
To Answer your questions, this game plays out like a movie. You are exposed to certain elements of the story, not the characters within the game. And if you looked closely at the car your character was in at the bridge scene you will notice its a hearse. That was Johnny's funeral procession.

And To answer the original question. I like skyrim for the first 10 minutes and like all these new bethesda games I had to step away from them, when I do a quest and need to listen to the details I don't want some town yokel walking up to me talking about how there are dragons in the sky or being stared at by everyone in a room mid conversation. It's rather stupid. nonetheless both are good games but like everything in life its not perfect.

I think that SR2 as better then SR: The Third, I just feel that the second was better then the third. The story I thought as better in the second, the music and the gameplay. one of the things I wanted to do was pick up a near by lamp pot and start beating people to death with it, but I couldn't which annoyed me.

Also why is there less customisation, I loved that part of SR2, it annoys me when I can customise my guy a load.

On topic, no it isn't better then Skyrim but it is still hell good, I think that SR4 will be better then ever.

It's getting more attention than Skyward Sword :)

No, SR3's juvenile humor does not mean that it can't be a solid game. I hear Rayman Origins is a solid game and it seems to be aimed squarely at children. Saints Row 2 was a solid game and it was pretty juvenile. Earlier Grand Theft Autos, and how can we forget the insanity that was Conker's Bad Fur Day?

As for people on the Escapist, they seem to mostly receive the Saints Row series quite well thanks in part to this. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/312-Saints-Row-2]

Finally, as for my own opinion, I like the idea of presenting an incredibly crazy, morally bankrupt open-world game but other games this year are taking priority. I like Saints Row 2 but can hardly be called a huge fan, or even a fan at all, of it thus far - I bought it several months ago and haven't even put ten hours into it yet.
The fuck is Skyward Sword?

OT: I've seen some of Saints row 3 but not played it.. I still refuse to believe there are any games in the world much better than Skyrim, though.. I might pick it up..

SR3 is OTT, but the storyline is actually pretty damn good for the first three quarters. DAMN good game. Skyrim is, however, better.

I'm debating getting it after I get Batman Arkham City, It's competing with skyward sword to be bought lol. I really enjoyed SR2 but it will have to be damn good to be as good as Skyrim.
