Morgoth would destroy them both with a flick of his wrist.

But since he's been 'defeated' for a long time now, lets go with the next best thing: Sauron.

Sorry, what?

Anyways. Sauron. It really wouldn't be much of a contest. Even if, for some unforeseen reason, he's defeated, the resulting explosion would certainly kill Arthas.

The Lich King.

Sauron's just a giant eye.
The Eye was Peter Jackson invention. Sauron had a body in the books, he just needed the ring to finish the regeneration and complete his sould hence getting all of his power back.

Also the poll is talking about both having all their tools and powers, meaning Sauron with The One Ring. So Sauron would obliterate The Lich King.

Minus the ring - Lich King wins. The Scourge armies can't be stopped by Sauron's hordes, it only grows everytime someone dies.

With the ring, it would come down to a 1v1 fight between them, and then it would be too close to call. While Sauron is awesome, lets remember that the Lich King resisted the mind affecting magic of Yogg-Saron (when kings and heroes have been seduced by the dark madness) while at the same time one shotting Illidan, and killing and recruiting countless of the Horde's and Alliance's heroes for his cause.

Seconded. Lord Soth is the definition of badass. And awesome.
Come on, he can fucking point at you and say "die" and you would die.

But in the matter at hand, If Sauron had the one ring, The Lich King is totally fucked. Without it, Sauron's army could still beat his ass pretty handily.

Sauron could clean house with Arthas, in his heyday or otherwise. Even if Ner'zhul has Arthas' back, Sauron could call down whatever un-holy vengeance Morgoth could stir up.

Sauron would own Arthas, since Arthas is being trashed by random adventurers and it took a world to defeat Sauron :p
ahh, you make an excellent point...Sauron it is.

I think what we're all failing to realise is that they can't be compared, since the Lich King is Sauron's main on WoW, so he'd never have to fight him.
lol talk about a conundrum / paradox

I hope you don't mean that you like Uther, because I meant it more of as "Arthas was once a friend of Uther, and that's enough for him to always be bad".
i didnt particularly like, it was just a sad day for all the people in lorderan

1 vs 1 duel wise, I think Sauron will win, considering he has his ring.

Army wise, Lich King definately, as each orc fallen is another recruit for the undead army.

Lord Soth would turn them both to dust, I mean honestly he can kill a fully matured red dragon with a single word.

I like Sauron a lot more, but I'd still have to say Lich King.
Why?
Simply put, turning your enemies' armies against them as undead is a sure way to win.
Sauron's armies might be vast, but they are limited.

ok for everyone saying the Lich King, you seriously don't know what you're talking about

first off Sauron is an immortal. he was around at the beginning of Eä and helped in it's creation. he isn't a god but is the equivalent of an archangel.

so needless to say he could smoke Arathas without much difficulty

Well Sauron is practically a GOD!!! and he had so much power his spirit was the driving force of the malevolent evil that is the Witch-king..the other 8, Sauraman, Dul Guldor, entire state of Barad-dur....his spirit has alot of power!

Now a good fight would be Witch-king vs. Lich King! Levels the playing field etc.

I'd forgotten about him. You're right. God that guy is creepy.
I vote for Sauron, because he was originally the right-hand man of the God of Evilness(Melkor/Morgoth). It's not like Arthas was ever Sargeras's lieutenant, he was just some goody-two-shoes, weak-minded prince who was too stupid to see what everyone else noticed coming a mile off, and that's how he ended up the evil dark lord he is.
Plus, he's a character that you just hate the guts out of, as he promptly goes around and kills all the badasses from the earlier games and turns the pretty damn awesome Sylvanas into a bitchy banshee. Then he just goes and sits on his throne for like five years, occasionalyl getting up to have an emo flashback and pull dragons out of glaciers.
Sauron spent the time he had stewing in his tower planning his assault on the rest of Middle-Earth, forming alliances, raising armies, building a really evilly awesome siege engine, and bending the second most powerful wizard in existence to his will.
In terms of sheer villainy and evil badassery, Sauron wins out. Even Kil'Jaeden thought Sauron was cooler when he created the Lich King out of Ner'zhul--he made the armor to look like Sauron's armor for the Fellowship of the Ring movie. I rest my case.

Wasn't Uther like some totally awesome Paladin guy? I figured that made him good. Unless...Ah.

You rolled Horde.
I've hated Uther even since before the creation of World of Warcraft, so don't even try that one.

He's just a *****. He deserved to die.
What? How could you say such a thing? Uther was a badass, and I would like to see some evidence to the contrary. Plus, if anyone is a ***** it's Arthas. At the time he killed Uther, the paladin would have pimp-slapped him if he didn't have Frostmourne handy.

Finally a sane answer. Now someone can start a VS thread against Raistlin Majere.

Sauron got careless. He though he had already won and broken Isildur's spirit.(And sword) So he put the Ring and himself in harm cause of his own stupidity.
Carelessness and stupidity are maybe the two worst weaknesses any antagonist can have. No matter how strong you are, how great an army you control, exposing your only weak point (physicly) to your enemy, will defeat you.
