From the way its phrased it seems as though everyone from the old world will be saved and transferred over to the new one, effectivly copy/pasting them in the superior universe. So I don't see where the dilemna is in remaking.

*sigh* Save the planet...boy is that ever a conversation piece. Even if humans COULD remake the world, they shouldn't. They lack the necessary capacities to correctly attempt such a thing. As for saving it, well...

Wow it's the end of Dues Ex: Invisible War all over again....

Use it, create J.C. Denton (if he's not already here) and give everyone super powers in equal measure. (again)

Now I can do research in peace and without guilt....

Save the planet, no man is worthy of power like that. Anyone who would use it is doing it for what they want the world to be, not for the good of mankind but for themselves.

- If possible, give NASA the knowledge of cheap, reliable means of space propulsion.
- Khajiits and Argonians are now real and live on earth.
- Cure for all STDs, cancer, HIV, and AIDS is reality.

Done. World is now perfect. Everything else people can do themselves.

I would use the magic machine, but you didn't say there was a limit on wishes.
Sorry but I just gotta' ask why are the Khajits and Argonians necessary for growing a Utopia or did you just want to see if anyone was actually paying attention?

Yes it is a inhumane way to get world peace. But I don´t think its possible any other way.

I just thought of a thing how would the machine know what peace is?
I yhink you would have to think it through more so yeah I take back my wish :p

This question reminds me of the "monkey hand" story.
Peace doesn't exist, the nature of our universe is random chaos. The only way we wouldn't fight is if humans were a hive mind, though that sounds as pleasant as living in Moskow in 1945.

But whether you use it or not, won't humans be basically still the same?If so what to stop them from not waging war on each other in the new world? Also I really don't see the point of the question : save humanity from what? from who? Cruelty, war, and being jerks is part of human nature so if you want to get rid of those, humans will have disappeared, replaced by some new species of men. I have exactly the same problem when people say that they have(n't) faith in humanity. That makes no sense! It would mean refuting our nature as human beings. We are what we are and there's no changing that. For the record I would still do it just for the fun of creating a world more hellish world than this one and establishing myself as God.

I had a couple reasons:

1. An experiment. If there are three sentient species on one homeworld, all on three different spectrums, what would happen? All I hear is one sentient life form evolving to control a planet but never multiple.

2. Personal preference. Even with NASA's funding, it could take a life time to find aliens. Just felt like adding a back up plan if new sentient species prove too hard to find. It says "remake the world" but not anything beyond Earth.
Hmmmm. It sounds like a fascinating world to study. I could deal with that. Welcome to the food chain I guess....might need those aforementioned super powers though.

"the nature of our universe is random chaos??" What Science backs this up? Does any? I ask because pretty much all of Non-Linear Dynamics disputes that and NLD is a Science.

There 3 main ways to make peace. First, to teach it like Doc. King, Gandhi, ect. The problem is not everyone will ever completely agree with you, and hell some people don't want peace at all. Just death and chaos!
The next is to force it. This has similar problems as the first. People will not want to be told what to do, even if it would bring peace, they will resist.
The last is the simplest, but most difficult. destroy and kill everything. Then leave it that way. By removing everything you keep all in balance. You remove all but what is perfect. Nothing.
To answer the question I would use the key and leave the world in perfect peace.

Agreed, I wouldn't use it to change anything about Earth as it seems fairly pointless. Not even accounting that are lives are quite insignificant, but making the world a better place wouldn't even change anything. The world could be worse, right? Yet we don't take that into account because we take everything for granted. If someone were to make the world a better place, there would still be misery from people who don't like the new world, or from people who want something even more because they take the new world for granted. The only way the world wouldn't suck is if humans were changed into little more than drones without emotions. I think I prefer the current shithole.

There's one thing I might change, though, from reading the comments about NASA. I'd make the moon habitable with a breathable atmosphere. It'd have to be larger and further out, along with a high concentration of oxygen, but I think that would be rather interesting. Think about how the Earth looks like from the moon, and how important space travel research would become.

Y'know we're saving the world all the time in games and in movies, but I have to wonder, if I had the power, would I be the guy trying to change the world, having the 'heroes' trying to stop me?

How about this then?

You've been given a key to a magical machine. Only you can use it.

If you use the key, the world as we know it will be effectivly destroyed, and you will able to remake the world however you want. Obviously you're only human, but the machine will be able to translate any desired change without problem. So say you said "make the world have peace" it will be able to do so. Let's say everyone will be saved and placed in the the new world you created as well.

If you don't use the key, the world stays the same, both the good and the bad. However, there will always be people who want the power, and will take it from you. Furthermore, they must kill you before they can use the key, effectively making you guardian of the world. You won't be able to ever live a normal life again, constantly hunted.

What do you do?
Gotta say, I'd be pretty tempted to use it myself...
erm. is this a question?

i'd remake the world however i'd wish, make myself immortal and near omnipotent (but not omniscient).

and then i'd descend to the mortal plane (there'd be your typical fantasy stuff crossed with futuristic stuff and maybe a little steampunk) and shout

"FEAR ME, FOOLS!! I AM YOUR GOD!!! MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA"

yeah. it'd be sweet.

No one said how many times it could be remade...Lots of empty planets out there...Let's go forth and multiply.

(And we can stick Rebecca Black and Justin Bieber fans on a nice far away planet)

Well yes it would. Think inter racial couples have a stigma? Think of inter-species couples. Think of the culture, the interactions of the governments, etc. Not to mention it gives "talimancers" and other xenophiles an actual conduit to express themselves for something completely alien to humans.
*blinks* Um, I was actually talking about the whole "More cures, less treatments" thing, but you're right. I think. Forgive my ignorance but what's a Talimancer and a Xenophile?
