There are no really scary movies out there, because they fucked up the Silent Hill movie so much.

Why is Resident Evil up there? And Stephen King?

The scariest movie ever is [REC] and they're making a sequel so I guess that.

That's right, the entire genre. Or w/e. Don't fuck with Korean horror movies - they will give you nightmares.

Any kind of Japanese horror is extremely messed up. I mean, even their children shows terrify me.

Is that tokyo gore police?

OT: the only horror movie that has ever really scared me is The Thing. I do like friday the 13th though but as someone up there said it's just more of a gorefest

None on your list. As a child growing up in the eighties I'd have to say any of the realistic nuclear apocalypse movies. The Day After. Miracle Mile. Threads! Fucking Threads gave me nightmares for months. We were on the verge of total extinction, it could have happened at anytime. For actual Horror films Dario Argento is a winner in my book. Suspiria, Profondo Rosso, Phenomena. John Carpenter could put some scares together early on too. The Thing, Halloween.

I would nominate The Ring as the scariest movie of all time, but the sequels are so horrible, it takes away the scare. I would say Stephen King's movie, except for the one about the killer laundry machine.

Reminds me of the first time I watched Halloween and thought it was fairly tame, then I watched the last house on the left and didn't sleep two days. The originals mind you; anyone that likes the remakes can go crawl in a ditch and die.

I'd have to agree with this. The pure, original Alien was quite terrifying for me.

However, there was a scene when I was younger that would always make me cower a bit. That opening scene in the first Jurassic Park movie with the whole velociraptor bit. It absolutely terrified little me.

The Shining was pretty creepy. So was the Exorcist.

Though i dunno... i don't really get scared as such. Creeped out. Grossed out. Scared is the wrong word though i think.

I can't really name a series but the ending of "sleepaway camp" kinda disturbed me, but the scariest movie I've ever scene was "eraserhead" because it made me feel like I wasn't in control of the movie and it would do what it wanted to without logic or reason.
I've heard "Martyrs" is pretty messed up but I still haven't seen it.
