Again i'm going to have to go with the original here. Some of my fondest memories are of being 7 and being scared shitless in that damn mansion.

I would say the village. I hated hated hated it. Scared me shitless.

Also, you know how you're supposed to go inside that house and grab the shotgun, and then that spawns the chainsaw guy? I never noticed that house so I just kept shooting and knifing the villagers until the bell rang and didn't get a shotgun until the first merchant.
Actually you're safe from MR. Chainsaw if you get it after the bell rings and the people leave.

I would have, but I didn't even know that the place existed. I was playing it at night and I was really freaked out so I just got out of there as fast as I could.

Oh, that makes sense. Still you should always explore. It gets you some awesome loot. Like the free Broken Butterfly somewhere in the castle.

The RE1 mansion still creeps me out to this day. My experiences when I played through that mansion as a kid traumatized me, and I always get this unsettling feeling to similar looking places, such as the training facility in RE0, and the RPD in RE2. I really hate the feeling I get whenever I am forced to backtrack through those places.

The script.

It terrifies me.

EDIT: Just realized this is a necro'd thread. Three years old.

The mansion scared me a lot, especially when I played it in the dark. It was just because it was huge, dark, and every mansion is creepy no matter what.

Where's the RE0 love?

That was the only RE game I got scared while playing because I played it in my dark house, during a storm. It seemed like the wind all ways chose the best/worst time to blow something across my deck in the backyard or knock a tree banch or bamboo against the side of the house.

I know this thread is three years old but it was made before I joined, so I'm going to take this chance to share my thoughts on Resident Evil's scariest places.

I've never played Resident Evil 0 so I can't say anything about that, instead I will give the scariest places for the games I have played.

Resident Evil: (PS1) Just the mansion in general.

Resident Evil 2: The underground labs and the many times Mr X chases you.

Resident Evil 3: I've just started playing this game, and I'm at the police station so far nothing to note, oh wait Nemesis.

Resident Evil CVX: Hearing the tortured screams of the Ashford twins father for the first time. Also the game in general was actually pretty creepy.

Resident Evil 4: The Castle area on normal or higher difficulty. Simply because you get to meet these guys.

Resident Evil 5: If I had to choose, then it would be the Licker scenario.

Resident Evil Remake: Lisa Trevor, that is all.

The Arcadia. Those white walls, pure white, and then a glimpse of blood... and who really knows what lies under the main decks too? If what we see on the decks above where Wesker fights the main group is that bad, what could be in steerage waiting for them to hide from the Umbrella attack chopper?

And yes, this particular source material counts. Don't try and tell me otherwise...
