Why is abortion an issue? Why is it so much of an issue that it's referred to as "The A Word", like it's the Deplorable Word out of the Chronicles of Narnia? It's upto the owner of the womb to get the undesired offspring sucked out and slammed. Not the petitioners.
Mostly because all the religious ones are being dicks about "It'll piss off Gawd!" "Jebus didn't want dat!" "It wooks wike a puppy!" etc. etc.

Point taken. It's why I'm not religious (does Arcadian count as a religion?)
In my religious viewpoint, maybe God doesn't want you wasting your Sundays, and so going to church every week is just making him madder and madder?
By the time you're standing in front of him, it's too late and you've already in front of Saint Damn Peter's gate, being told to go to Hell, do not collect $200 as you pass GO.

We're fighting for a smiting anyway. We're damned if we do, we're damned if we don't. I want to be norse. Their gods are awesome.
But I'm a man of science and logic and no faith at all, and I can't believe in any deity because of that anyway.

Part of my science is genetics, and the hot, spicy controversies...

(*phew* I was wondering how I could tie it back up.)

Oh wonderful, I love it when religious people jump in on something they have no say in. Here's a hint: come back when you aren't a bunch of hatemongering hypocrites.

Back on topic, this is the age of Science and Progress. Do I think its beneficiary to invest time and money into stem cell research, with all it's capable of? Hell yes!

There's ethics, and then there's idiocy.

Here's how I see it.

Women WILL get abortions no matter what, and they know they are killing the fetus. Scientist want to learn as much as they can. They want to study the stem cells. They're going to die anyway, so why not put them to use to help us out?
Another one for "Waste-Not-Want-Not".

Which brings me to another issue, if I may temporarily derail it.

Why is abortion an issue? Why is it so much of an issue that it's referred to as "The A Word", like it's the Deplorable Word out of the Chronicles of Narnia? It's upto the owner of the womb to get the undesired offspring sucked out and slammed. Not the petitioners.

Ok, sorry.
(I might make a splinter topic about that, actually.)

I've noticed from a lot of my schoolmates I know who are against abortion (I'm 15, so were all idiots) that they can't stand someone else sharing a different opinion than them. They feel the need for everybody else to follow their thoughts on a subject. And they're all against it in the first place because they consider an embryo a human, yet they support capital punishment! Pretty ironic. Then again, these are teenagers, I'm not saying everyone against abortion is like this.

Back to the main topic: I wholeheartedly support Stem Cell Research, even if it's from an embyro.

Edit: I like the answer of the guy above:
