Invasion of Privacy does not make the world and its people safe, it is in fact a breach on the laws of Human Rights Violation.

So you can kind of guess where I stand on this crap.

My school since it has a bit of a theft problem (never use the locker room lockers. you will lose your lock and anything inside.) we can ask the office to put some tracking stuff on our laptops and also request them to remove it. our school doesn't supply any so I guess if we asked we couldn't complain. though I have no tracking thing in my laptop I do use it at school in the library for block 2 and 3 (like I am at the moment =D) I just keep my backpack with it close to me at all times as nobody in this school has ever taken anything directly, always just stealing from lockers or unattended backpacks... wow that went a bit off topic but I don't care I am not erasing it!

Of course they're justified. If the US government is justified in doing it then so are they. I say that everybody in the States should be spied on, starting with their President. Who wants to be the first to attempt to tap his phone and computer? Oh, and let's not forget the CIA, someone go tap their e-files as well.

[/sarcasm]
You realise that electronic communication is also heavily monitored now, and the fact you have put "CIA", "President", and "Spied on" all in that will mean it will be flagged by the CIA, and you will be rubber gloved, water boarded, then held in a cage in Cuba for a few years?
Didn't the US government put a stop to Guantanamo Bay? I remember Obama saying something along the lines of shutting the place down.

My WTF moment for the day at eleven in the morning. I can agree with using tracking software to trace down stolen items, but as for the monitoring, I cannot agree with it at all.

I think that the teachers and administrators behind this should have cameras placed all over thier homes, just to make sure that they don't ever come up with something this f*cking stupid again. And if they do, put 'em on a live, 24 hour feed on youtube, lets see how comfortable they are then.
Plus, they should be forced to read 1984 start to finish, without being allowed to eat, sleep, use the washroom, or blink.
Who the hell thought this was a good idea, they must be true blue stupid (so angry couldn't think of a better word)

"Hell no!" is an understatement of a century. This story reminded me of Nineteen Eighty-Four and it's "Telescreens".
Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only person who know about that reference.

This seems more like someone wanting to spy on people instead of a security precaution.

I mean, I usually have my laptop in my bedroom- out where, yes, I or my girlfriend even could be seen changing after a shower or waking up. If its in the living room then it can pick up on very personal conversations and moments that are no ones business besides who's there.

A lot of people deserve to get fired over this- no excuses

Frankly, someone deserves jail for this. How that principal could pick up the phone to call the kid's parents and think they were doing something legal, I have no idea.

Even if it catches kids doing criminal acts, it's completely unethical and almost definitely illegal.

Surveliance in the school - fine. At a child's home WITHOUT a court order? Certainly not as this is a violation of any number of privacy and personal rights issues.

Even if they did catch students doing something illegal, unless it was specifically stated in the contract that they can spy on students, they can't do a thing.
