OT: I like screaming, I like melody; a nice mixture of the two is great but many of my favorite bands are actually just screamers/shouters. That's what happens when you love hardcore XD

Do you understand what "bigoted" is? I didn't call it "childish" or "noise" or attack it in any derogatory sense.

It all depends on the particulars... things like Cannibal Corpse sound awful and have no place in music, whereas bands like The Devil Wears Prada have very melodic elements and a use of both singing and screaming, and the screaming has range, so it sounds much different.

My favorite two bands are The Devil Wears Prada and We Came as Romans because the screaming is so amazingly well done. Though I do agree that it is an acquired taste, I HATED screaming before I listened to All That Remains.

All others I have heard, I try to find a instrumental version as I like the instrumental but I hate the singing. Otherwise I just avoid it all together.

Depends. Not all the time, some of my friends usually listen to just metalcore/hardcore, I can't do that, got a couple of bands here and there that I really like and match my mood when I need the screaming lol.

so I'm wondering if a twat trying to deafen you with music that may have emotional,political and philisophical depth is less appealing than a pretty sounding pop diva who "sounds good" but for all the world has the depth of a dessert spoon.

I couldn't find my response on the poll so I'll just say it:
I like screaming in music when it is appropriate.
When a song is all screaming it is stupid and arbitrary and can ruin a good song.
I like it when it is a display of extreme emotion, usually once in a song, when you just can't express something any other way. I like emotional music.

That said, most of my music does not feature screaming.

I love it, but there are some I don't like.

The super high pitched black metal screams I'm not really fond of. Wolven Ancestry and Dimmu Borgir are the only black metal bands I like.

I also don't like to super, super low death metal ones, but there are exceptions to that as well.

I honestly can not stand songs that feature almost nothing but angsty screaming, growling, or grunting. It's just God awful. This generally includes almost 99.9999999% of all death metal, -core, and other such genres.

However, I do not hate "screaming" in music. On the contrary. Used properly (and in moderation) it can accentuate the song it's in and often give it a greater emotional impact.

Some examples of bands I thoroughly enjoy who use "screaming" in a proper, musical manner:

System of a Down
Rob Zombie
Deth Klok. (don't say it. I know)

As I had said before, screaming in tune with the music or using a scream as a means to hold a lyric or note (that accompanies the music) is perfectly find and often helps the song.

I like it, but not if its the entire song. Songs need juxtaposition, light and shade otherwise its boring and abit weird.

Now see, that first song's not bad. A little too screechy at points but still decent. The other song, however, is a prime example of what I loathe. That crap literally makes me cringe at how awful it is. Just....guh. *puke*

To an extent. Screaming can enhance a song if used in the right proportion, but too much screaming is bad.

If I want to hear political debates I'll go onto political forums or watch the news or some such.
If I want to listen to some music that I'll enjoy while walking to school everyday I will. In fact, I wouldn't mind have more depth to music, but if I all get is some talentless berk shouting into the microphone, then I'll stick to the "simpler" stuff thanks.
