For those of you who have played split screen on consoles, I'm asking you this, is screen watching a legitimate strategy, or the worst form of cheating around.

I remember playing the original Halo and even Halo 2 with my friends and someone would always yell, "SCREEN WATCHER!!!!!!".

So, what do you guys think?

Anyway if you are deliberately doing it then yes, it is cheating. However what sort of game even has split screen any more?
Ones that cater to people other than just our internet obsessed teen culture.

My roomate constantly checks out my split screen. I personally don't care. He usually beats me anyways.

I'm the type of player who focuses on my own gameplay and will generally tune out everything else around me.

I survive when I really shouldn't have and my brother realizes I must have been watching his screen so he goes "You screen watched!" But, I didn't do it intentionally. I don't want to deal with that.

Its hard not to do it, especially when your familiar with the field in question. I just say "forget that- you can see my screen as well as I can see yours, we're on equal ground".

It would be better if we were looking at different TVs altogether though.

I don't like any of your poll options, its sad but unavoidable.

I wouldn't consider it cheating on the basis that the same information is available to all players at the same time. It'd be cheating if you set up some sort of camera to view the other person's screen while playing online, or something which excluded them from the same on you. If I'm playing with people on a console they're welcome to watch my screen back. It makes everything much more interesting.

Anyone who knows anything about war knows that intelligence is a weapon, often more powerful than any single gun or bomb.

If you don't want screen watchers, play LAN.

I always referred to it as "screen peeking", but my little brother did pull it a few times. And then he lied about it, the little shit.

I was in a marching band. My peripheral vision is extremely acute. I have no choice in the matter. I console myself by noting that the other guy can do it, too.

Still, I have to admit getting a kick out of one instance in Coagulation on Halo 2, where I deliberately sought out the guy I was fighting (who was hiding at the time). There's nothing like the sensation of watching a tank turret turning ever so slowly...only to stop precisely facing you. Then there's that sublime moment of "Oh shit."
