I have to give it to friends though I personally find both of them to be superbly written. Friends got the tipping point because It was actually relevant when I was watching it and hit it's peak when I really started watching television with interest.

When Seinfeld ended I was only 9 years old, yet at the same time in the Friends timeline they'd only done 4 seasons.

IMO Seinfeld is funny, Friends is an unfunny and predictable piece of garbage.
So I'm going with Seinfeld on this one. Oh hey, would you look at that, I tipped the scale towards Seinfeld with one vote.

I'm going with Friends on this one, just felt more like things actually happened in that show, with the characters I mean. That and I think it was generally more fun, and funnier. The only bits of Seinfeld I really liked were Jerry's stand-up bits.

I have no clue what Seinfield is, so I'll go with friends.

EDIT: I only found out after voting that we're talking TV shows... Y'know OP, put some effort into threads?

Seinfeld, I love the humor.

I really like friends as well, but I prefer Seinfeld.

Also, are you calling your friends idiots because they prefer Friends? If you are, I think calling someone an idiot over a personal preference and opinion of a television show is far more idiotic.
No. Opinions are based on universal standards and those who think that one show is better than another deserves anything they get. Opinions are just what the anarchists are trying to make us believe exist before they steal the moon! Is that really what you want?
OK... sorry about. I think I might be sleep deprived...

Honestly I prefer Friends because I find Seinfeld kinda repetitive and the pattern seems to be too similar in most episodes. Sure it's fun, but I get tired of: "I did x" and the reaction is alway exaggerated and then there's really loud exclamations over that he did x. Then Person a enters the room and asks what's up and one of them explains the situation to almost the same exaggerated reaction.
Edit: Though I got to admit Friends got that to some extent too...

I just do not understand @ the people saying that Seinfeld's situational comedy was stupid and that its characters were unlikable. Is it really that hard to tell that the show was a satire of sitcoms? That's why it was so brilliant; it functioned as a sitcom on the surface but the real joke was in the absurdity of the situations, and how easily the characters' problems could be solved by just rational behaviour, and how much everyone cared about tiny, stupid things.

But it probably would've meant a lot less to a non-American, because I don't think that the tropes it was skewering ever plagued non-American TV. Seinfeld's never had the international audience that something like The Simpsons has, and I think that's the reason.

Seinfeld is a masterfully written brilliant show.

Friends is a sitcom.

It saddens me to see Friends winning, but meh opinions...

OT: Seinfeld is one of the greatest televisions shows ever made.

Friends. At least it was SEEABLE in Blighty!
(Yes, Friends had a known place in Territorial TV in the UK when it was on, while Seinfeld....not so much)
It was on BBC 2, although it wasn't well advertised. The also incredibly funny Larry Sanders Show was on before it, which puzzled me since it has a lot more swearing in it. Personally, I liked both shows and are a cherished part of my misspent youth, but Seinfeld was waaay better.

sorry bro seinfailed sucks balls. Friends is where it is at. Sitcoms haven't been the same since they end the series.

I can relate a friends plot or joke to almost any situation. Much to the annoyance or confusion of my friends.

What's seinfailed got. Bland dry humor a namesaake character (if you can call Seinfeld being himself a character) that needs punched in the face and a soup Nazi..... Okay okay I will give props to the soup Nazi but he is all that seinfailed had going for it.

I loathe the trendy, 'let's sell all our background props' vibe of Friends. It is that pretentious.

Seinfeld, on the other hand, was brilliant in its ability to avoid a storyline while being incredibly witty about its time and age. It won't age well, but it was different and had a stellar cast.

Friends has 1 good joke in each season. Seinfeld has at least 1 an episode, no contest.

Frasier all the way, man. That show was awesome.
But I'll join the write in vote of Frasier as that is genius and still makes me laugh despite having seen it so many times.

I've never even heard of Seinfield, but I have heard of Friends (and gotten verbally abused for not watching it) so I'll go for Friends.

I have to vote for Seinfeld, but for any Friends fans who can see UK comedy, maybe it's on Hulu or something, do give 'Coupling' a try, and no, not the terrible US pilot.

It's like Friends but with more jokes, and more filthy humour and more sexual tension between the six friends.

I fully admit that the laugh track is HORRIBLE tho, and totally detracts from the show.

I liked Friends when it was on the air, nowadays it just feels decent. Seinfeld... it's funny from time to time, but mostly I'm not just that into it. It could be because Jerry Seinfeld is a total crap actor.

So, my vote is for Friends.

Seinfeld. Not only was it waaaay funnier than Friends (which sucks), but it got it. It understood and portrayed life in a vastly more realistic way. People were usually jerks, the universe dumped on them, their group of friends frequently quaralled for various stupid reasons. In Friends, group conflict would only be shown briefly for a few episodes when someone got cheated on or something. In Seinfeld, the four of them fought with others and even amongst themselves pretty much every episode for stupid crap that anyone else in real life would fight over due to the inherently petty nature of humankind. Seinfeld wins because it got real life, it got how the universe worked. Plus, Friends sucked, so its not even really a contest.
You have never watched more then a few episode of friends have you. There was conflict between the main character a lot. Like the time Chandler got drunk and made out with one of Joey's sister then forgot which one he made out with. Or the time Joey built the entertainment center that was to big for chandler and his apartment then tried to sale it, but was tricked into getting locked in it and the prospective buyer stole all their other stuff instead. Or the episode where Monica got sick off Joey and chandler's pet duck and chicken. Hell the we were on a break thing lasted forever. then there was the one where pheobe "changed" her name to something something bannana hamic Mike her husband wanted her to stop calling herself that but she refused so he "changed" his name to CrapBag in retaliation.

I can go on like this forever...seriously
