Well the ors wern't facing down 50 cals and flamers at all the gates(solid steel) and the culvert.

plus sombies can't use siege engines..

Look at Milo from Project Natal. Its cool but also creepy at the same time. So my answer is yes, yes I think we will build sentient robots.

Moore's law states that the amount of transistors able to be placed on an IC will double every 2 years (exponentially) until transistors are at the atomic level. Based on current achievements this is soon to come to pass.

Once the processing power of the smallest transistors has been harnessed and the algorithms controlling robot behaviour have been developed so that they allow autonomous operation and evolutionary learning then the advent of robotic sentience seems inevitable!

I'm quite sure we won't be able to make a computerized emulation of something that we still don't entirely understand, that is completely different with every single human being it [may or may not, (har har intelligence cynicism)] occupy.
