Poll: Sequels... Goddamn sequels

I have a question forum. How do you feel about sequels for video games? Do you think that trying to suck every last bit of cash out of a franchise is wrong, or that sequels can seriously improve on the original? I for one am starting to hate sequels. It seems like all popular games get a sequel. Left 4 Dead 2, Halo 3: ODST, CODMW:2. I'm not saying that sequels automatically ruin games, I'm saying that most we can do with out. What do you think?

in certain cases, yes. the GH franchise has been a bit over-saturated and could slow down, although that entire genre is new, so it isnt as bad.
alot of cases the franchises end up ruining themselves because they have been overdone. Halo is in practice, a one hit wonder that shouldnt have been continued into an entire multi-media franchise. Gears 3 will never be made, not because its a bad investment, but because Epic understands that its not a good idea to continue it so far.

The thing is: If the original game was supposed to have a sequel then the sequel probably is awesome.

If it's just for money it's probably shite.

i dont mind sequels aslong as there not over done and if the story calls for enougther game for instance they couldnt or didnt feel that they could fit all the story into one game so there for split it up into two games, or that they really feel that the gameplay could be improved and that they had missed some details in the first.

I usually like sequels. I can't think really of any sequels that I flat out hated, minus one (Shadow Hearts: From The new World = ew) but otherwise, I really like them.
