Oh yeah, I agree with that. Changing the genre of the game is a bit extreme. I wouldn't buy Halo if they turned it into some kind of RTS. Imagine how stupid a Halo RTS would be....

OT: Master of Orion 3 was a horrible, horrible sequel to an excellent strategy game.

Technically unless a game is a remake then it can't possible butcher the original...

I get all this nonsense about how one sequel can somehow diminish an original. Maybe other people think in block thoughts where all things with the same name must be compressed into a single item, but I can think of things and declare them good or bad individually. Yeah some sequels are bad but that doesn't change the original in any way so I don't care.

I judge each game individually, against the games that came before them. Sometimes they pass. Sometimes they don't.

Don't ask about Supreme Commander 2,Dungeon Keeper 2,or Red Alert 3. They never happened.

i think the games industry is wierd.

want to make a survival horror with a female protagonist, hmm that sounds like a failure;here you can use the tomb raider name to sell it.

it just seems like its easier to sell games if they have a big name attached to it, Modern warfare really had no buisness having the call of duty tag, nor did Bad company the battlefield one.

not that the above are bad or will be(i'm hopeful for tombraider), i just think its a fact of the games industry that franchises can't be judged as a whole.

For fucks sake Bioware, if you're claiming that TOR is KotOR 3, 4 and 5 etc; atleast make it worthy of that. Don't use a monthly subscription for something that we have been waiting for for ages. Don't make us play with 8 year olds who play Jedi Knights named xxObeiWaanKaenoibixx, and for fucks sake, let Obsidian do it! (probs EA's fault but still...)
I agree 100%

Well, I judge each game individually. Halo was made into an RTS and it was pretty fun, from what I played, so why not?
Are you like me and wishing for a sequel? Think about it. Space battles.

OT: I don't think I have played a sequel that I disliked. So until a bad Halo comes out I ill have to say that the sequel I have been the slightest bit disappointed with is Dead Space. It wasn't as, but still was, scary as the first. Still a fantastic game. Can't wait for the third one!

I was going to jump in and say how much DA2 is bollocks (ugh, I've been watching too many British internet reviewers), but then I read the poll question and now I have no idea.

How is it NOT worthy of that? The fact that you don't like the subscription model? You do realize you can ignore the children... right? Or the fact that not ALL children are bad and idiotic?

I could care less on Obsidian's part, more or less it would be buggy as all hell like most Obsidian games.

I honestly don't see any real problems of why it can't be considered KotOR 3, 4 etc. It has the story, it has the development, it has the dungeons, the items, the skills, hell it is more deserving of a KotOR title than the actual KotOR sequel from what I have played and seen of it. The only difference is that you pay 15$ a month for new content on a game that you apparently love to play (Talking about KotOR brand in general) as well as the fact that you have to play online. Those are the two only differences and potential cons I can think of. You can play the game solo if you must, I still don't see the problem. Please expand on your thoughts. I am honestly confused.
Where to start?
KOTOR was a single player RPG centered around your character in an epic story tailored to your decisions. In a MMO you can do nothing significant to the story (I use that term loosely when it comes to MMOs) you can't save the galaxy or conquer it. Its basically a WoW clone with a bunch of fetch quests and cartoony visuals.

Devil May Cry, The Old Republic, and Xcom have not been released yet. Don't start saying you hate them if you have yet to try them. That is if those were the games you were talking about.

I think a new life would be great, it worked for Fallout, bringing many people into the universe that otherwise wouldn't have and its an all new story. It is a great game on its own merits and if you are disappointed in the "no isometric (is that what it is called?) view" part then too bad.

If the franchise is stagnating (Sonic) try and do something different (Zelda) and try and bring some new blood for new players to get interested into your world (The Old Republic).

That is my 2 cents
Fallout DID work, but it tried to keep the RPG elements inside it. Devil may Cry swapped out a well loved iconic character for a grimdark edgy meth addict who looks like Tameem. Instead of combos, you just slash around in the air and reload your funs.
ToR is summed up by j-e-f-f-e-r-s really well.
Xcom is unforgivable. It will kill the franchise even more. Seriously, no FPS games will ever get as many sales as Battlefield or CoD. It is a huge waste. Imagine if Resident evil turned into a full out gritty third person shooter.

Metroid Prime.

So basically, there's nothing wrong with the idea. Just because a universe is presented in one genre doesn't mean it should be limited to it.
I think I'm gonna steal that point next time I get into this kind of argument. Don't think I've met a single person who's played that game that hated it.
