Poll: Series that deliver consistently good titles

Both the persona and age of empire games are a odd case since I like all the sequels but not the first game.

Gotta go with the Xeno "series" (even if non-numbered games are technically in the same world).

Even the "bad" Xeno game (ie Xenosaga 2) is better than many other games. And the good games (Xenogears, Xenosaga 3, Xenoblade) are some of the best games out there.

You know what, I'm probably gonna cop some flak for saying it, but fuck it. The Mass Effect series. Three consistently good games that I have replayed numerous times. There we are. I am now gonna go hide inside my bunker.

Can I join you? Whatever people think of the endings all 3 were still damn good games from where I'm standing. Also going to put my vote for the witcher series (2 games is enough to count right?).

You can join me, and I think I might join you. The Witcher games are fantastic. Here's looking forward to number 3.

OT: to expand on what I said earlyer theres no reason most series cant remain good...the ones that remain good and the ones with more freedom...like Fallout

I don't blame you for not remembering this abomination, but since this is a question about consistently good series games, THAT game takes the Fallout series out of the list I'm afraid. XD

I don't even need to watch the video to know what that is.

I still have it. I bought it for about £3, but I have it. *Shudder*

OT - I don't think any long-running series exists without a truly divisive instalment, like Civilization V. Whether they're good or bad consistently is debatable, considering that an instalment near-identical to a predecessor can be good in just providing more gameplay but innovating or introducing bugger-all.

Well up until Final fantasy 13( with the exception of FFX-2 imo ). Squaresoft /Enix , produced quality finalfantasy game . Each numbered game was different from their predecessor , while not necessarily better , but good . They had a good run. Up until they made sequels every game was a risk because each was different . The times they tried to play it safe with sequels ( again in my opinion ) the game were pretty poor.

i do find it hilarious when people try to say all final fantasy games are the same, i generally do laugh out loud at it.

(obviously alot of the character types/themes will overlay, but the actual combat and mechanics change wildly between alot of the games)


OT: it depends exactly on what the "series" is going for. if it is final fantasy, i don't mind them changing it up each game, all the stories are separate (besides the spin off things, which are generally pretty bad) so there is no real disconnect in the character doing combat different or anything, but if it is a story arc like the witcher or mass effect, i'd much prefer it to be very similar to the previous game so it keeps the same atmosphere and i go into the game with my feet running before i hit the ground, so to speak.

i don't think anyone would ever fault a game solely for trying something different. but at the same time, it has been 10 years and two spinoffs now, and i would really like a sequel paper mario TTYD

Creative Assembly Total War (Insert War Here) is the most consistent series that comes to mind. Including Total War Rome II, makes 15 games starting in 1999... plus DLC n' mods... cannot say I have ever had buyers remorse.

I think I love every Zelda game. I haven't played the DS ones or Skyward Sword yet, but the rest of the series is amazing.

From what I've seen of Skyward Sword, it looks brilliant. I'm a bit "eh" about buying the DS ones, because apparently you use the touch screen to move? I fucking hate that control system. I'm sure they're still good games, so I'll probably buy them eventually.
