You mean like publishers/devs/whoever confusing DRM with a good way to stop piracy?
Yes. that doesn't change the fact that the question asked is not the answer given.

None of them have been successful so far, so "It makes me LOL" is actually a step up from "It makes me HATE the fact that I paid for this bullshit.".
It makes him lol up until he actually gets it accidentally or it inconveniences him, of course. It makes him lol because it's ostensibly happening to pirates. Something you, preaching about the ineffectiveness and inconvenience of DRM, should know is bullshit.

But thanks. Going off point "made me lol."

I've had this one happen in Saints Row: The Third. Only it's not DRM, it's just crap.

Sorry, had to mention since this reminded me of that.

Just make the "bug" reach its climax later in the game, ruining the whole game and perhaps the same file with it, ahah.
Until it hits legit consumers. I'm sure you'd be "hahaing" at losing 30 hours of a game for "pirating," even though you didn't.

I'm not much of a PC gamer, and even less of a pirate, but how would that happen?

Being a pirate doesn't mean much, considering I just said you weren't in this scenario.

How does it happen? Are you asking for actual technical reasons? I'm not even sure I can answer that definitively, but it has happened and it will again. I don't think we've yet seen a single form of DRM that has only affected illegitimate users, and I doubt we ever will.

If you're a console gamer, you can still be hit by DRM issues. I had trouble getting SR the Third to recognise me as a legit consumer a couple days ago, though I had entered the "online pass" code and had played many times. Maybe it will never happen to you, but it happens to people. Actual consumers who are prevented from enjoying the content they paid for because of "DRM" "preventing piracy." I'm not the first person nor the last to have issues with these passes. And that's only one form of content protection.

And you honestly think save-wiping "bugs" as DRM won't affect the actual consumer?

The thing is, I don't know what their mentality is when dealing with piracy. No doubt, there are corporate scumbags who don't care who they hurt witht their BS, but it's not always the case.

The first steps for creating DRM that doesn't hurt the customer is to actually disclose what the DRM consists of and to have an efficient verification tool.

Hearing about raging losers in the news is worth the risk. :D

We need this. But further on in the game to piss people off more. I remember someone screwed up cracking Dead Space 2 so in the middle of the game it would crash. We need DRM like this.

I still have to say ArmA II's "turning you into a seagull" takes the cake, but still, mad props to Croteam.
What?!?!?! Please reveal more about that, it sounds hilarious.
Can't find any video of it, but I recall that it 1) skews your aim, 2) causes the screen to fuzz up, and 3) completes the illusion by turning you into a seagull.

Proving once and for all that my idea to have a designated Seagull Brigade is a complete stroke of genius.

I wish they did something like that, but hidden and subtle.

*every 1000 steps makes you move one click slower. Halfway through the game, you can't move.
*reload time gets longer and longer every level
*remove one color every level
*lower gravity progressively
*random game save erasing

Just make the "bug" reach its climax later in the game, ruining the whole game and perhaps the save file with it, ahah.
Those have been tried before and failed since the pirates flooded game forums complaining about the "game destroying bugs" and with word of mouth being what it is probably ruined a fair amount of potential sales.

Eh... I think that rather than DRM, this was created in hopes of getting a small amount of free publicity. DRM will always be cracked, and the developers know that. If they were serious with DRM, they would have made it heavier. So why would they waste time in doing something that ultimately useless, and won't really affect the amount of people who pirate it? Publicity for making such a hilarious thing. IMO.

This is probably gonna get cracked, but it is also pure genius.
Already has been to my knowledge.

Still, this is a case of DRM done right. You don't fuck over paying customers.

I'm looking at you, Ubisoft.

That wasn't hilarious at all. Now, if the game just spawned hundreds and hundreds of Suicide Kamikaze's, THEN it would be freakin' hilarious.

That is awesome, though, like all DRM, it will get "fixed," and, from the sound of it, already has been. Still, it's much better than Ubisoft's DRM, as well as many others.

My question to you my fellow escapists, is this a good way to stop piracy? I personally think it is; The comedic value is enough for me to be all for it.
Once it's known, it gets cracked along with the other DRM. It being "funny" doesn't mean it works.

So you seem to be confusing "It makes me LOL" with "It's a good way to stop piracy."
Every DRM gets cracked. I simply meant that this is a way to delay to pirates for a half and hour that at least provides entertainment value. There is no way to stop piracy, any moral fiber (CDprojekt) or annoyance (Ubisoft) will be ripped to shreds by pirates regardless of what anyone says or does.
