For me this is a hard choice seeing as how I've had both. I had my heart broken twice by the same man yet haven't enjoyed sex but sex without feeling or passion is nothing, however love without touch or intimacy you'll be hard pressed to keep alive. The choice boils down to two choices, pleasing your nerves or pleasing your emotions. For that fact alone I'd rather be happy and in love then feeling good and alone.

Also I don't quiet get the hate on love, yes it can end badly but the key word is can not will. As I said above I have felt great heart ache but I'm not going to give up on love just because of one or two guys. Emotion maybe a chemical reaction in the brain but sex is a result of feeling the has be programmed into our bodies to encourage sex for reproduction. Sex is primal while emotion is something evaluational. Few species can say they feel anything other then the primal emotion like eat, sleep, mate and survive. As I said something that puts me above out primal programming is better in my book.

To the folks who said that one cannot have love without sex, you might want to stop and think that over. After all, personal perspectives and feeling alone, do not apply well to all of Reality ;). I know from first-hand experience that it is more than possible to have love and romance without any need or want for sex.

I'm a romantic asexual, so love definitely for me. I was in love once, and it was the most powerful connection I have ever had to any one individual, it was something special that's for sure, and I remember how painful the heartbreak was when I lost that connection.

This is the part that really bewilders me. Do cows need love to have sex? What about Dogs? Or Cats? We assign emotion to things, but that just makes them better, not a crucial component of them. Sex is a biological necessity. Everyone on here who voted for love is basically voting to kill the species because they wouldn't want to go on if they could not feel love. This is insane.

This isn't just about which one you think is better, this is about which one do you want to deny the entirety of our species if you had to choose one. I like love more than I like sex, myself, but if we ended sex then we're ending mankind, which HAS to be worse than simply ending the social and psychological construct of endorphin-driven affection.

Also, Naheal, I apologize for choosing you out of the crowd. You're an example chosen at random, this isn't something against you personally.

I had figured. Were it not for experience of sex sans love, I would be on your side. I'm not really for it, though. It's precisely as I had described it: empty. It's nothing against you or the species, but I have no desire to procreate with someone that I don't care for.

Additionally, if we were to go with a species that sticks as a mated pair for any extended period of time, "love" would fall under said category for them as well. Love helps to ensure that such a mated pair in humans works for a longer period of time.

There is also another point to make here too, we're at a point in time where procreation is no longer as necessary as it was for our ancestors. There are over 7 billion people on this planet, the possibility of the species being 'killed' off because some individuals have little to no interest in sex is folly, it is simply an argument that makes no sense at this point in time.

Procreation is indeed necessary for survival of the species, in moderation of course, but over-procreation is harmful, overpopulating the planet and consuming all of its resources is a very real possibility in the near future. Procreation is just not as much a necessity for everyone as it was thousands of years ago.

If anything, more love is needed, to calm the waves of hostility and connect the people of this world into a strong unified and progressive whole of a species, rather than the fractured backwards mess that we are right now.

Love. I'd be happier to have one really close, platonic friend for the rest of my life than to be stuck in loveless, sexual relationships.

Sex without love is just a fun way to spend an afternoon. Its like masturbation except you feel some pride afterwards.
Love without sex is all well and good, but I couldn't help but shake the feeling that I would be missing out on a massive aspect of the relationship. There is nothing more intimate that you can share with someone than your own body.
I have love without sex all the time already, with my family and friends. To love a girl without any sexual element would just be having a really good female friend.

For that reason, I would choose sex.
Essentially this. I'd rather have a kickass fuck buddy than a wife with whom I couldn't get physical.

Hm... I can't really chose.

Like a few members on here, I've yet to experience either. But unlike them, I'd rather like to have sex. At least once. The one thing I've told many people is that I don't want to die a virgin. That would just be lame.

But I like to imagine the thought of love as well. Honestly, I'm just going to cheat and not vote. Besides, even though I know in theory sex and love aren't exclusive, in practice, I don't know if I could manage it without love getting crammed in there somewhere. Or at least affection.

Uh, love, I guess. If you can't have sex with someone else, there's always yourself! But yeah, I'd really like proper companionship and all that bollocks, rather than a loveless life sleeping around. Besides, by the time you hit 40, you're not going to get much sex unless you're still really hot, whereas if you have love, that hopefully lasts for life.

Sex because physical gratification feels better than emotional happiness.
At least in my opinion.
