Well, it does get my attention, for instance I'll check out a manga book with attractive people on the cover, but in the end it's likely to make me feel that the product feels "cheap" And not in the doesn't-cost-you-a-lot-of-money sense either.

Even though I don't remember buying a product based on sex, I'm pretty sure I have so I voted for once or twice on the poll.

I hate watching movies with extreme levels of sex. It makes me sick to watch others at it. Yes its just tv but even then... If i wanted to watch sex i know exactly how to do so without needing to have a decent movie spoilt by errotic porn.

Games are not to bad considering i do have 3 games which are sex tended but even then, i don't play them much except when im bored and need a laugh. They also don't really show much but you get the gist from most of it. Small ammounts of extreme nudity feature in 2 of the games though... Which often puts me off playing unless in the 'mood'.

No. No matter where you go we will hunt you down. I mean FFX-2 was only meant to be bought for the pervyness. To actually enjoy the game... You must pay for that sin with your life.
Would you believe I enjoyed it for the pervyness and camp value?

Jeez, I'm the kind of person who watched Ed Wood movies and the kind of stuff they put on MST3K, of COURSE I enjoy things for the camp value.

The fact that, when I was that age, I genuinely had a major crush on Yuna didn't make things any easier.

Nope, never. I don't really pay attention to advertisements, and even when I do I'm not retarded enough to think the product has anything to do with what's in the ad. I only came in here to see if the title was indeed a Megadeth reference or just a coincidence. Now I know, and now I leave.
Dave Mustaine is very dissapointed.

OT: At times it does especially when appropriate (porn).

Sex doesn't usually sell me on a product, and do you know why? Because I know they never have the balls to back it up :D

I've pretty much sworn to never buy a game based on breastacles or ass or anything else, and not only because it wont even have any sex in it.

That's when it's low: when the product doesnt actually have any of the advertised ... ah ... things in it. It's like selling a red sportscar and then you get it home only to realize that it's actually a puke-green hatchback ... "oh ... I guess I fell for it again ..." ;)

I think we're all attracted to sexual imagery, whether we admit it or not, if we weren't we wouldn't be human would we? But it depends on whether you're the sort of person who actually expects to find the cover-breasts in the game or the kind of just knows that it's advertising trickery.

They should stay withing the bounds of what the product actually is, don't put breasts on the cover unless that's a major part of the game ;)

@every person in this thread who said no:

you're right, a sexy person in an ad hasn't sold you a product. The relationship between advertising and purchasing is much more subtle and complex.
@Matt: I notice you're not denying it either. ;)

Really, it depends. Something with Elvira on IS gonna get me to stop and think, but then so is a memetic in-joke, or a good piece of music, or a good voice.

Sex can sell, doesn't mean it always does. And certain things:

Don't have a chance.

Megadeth reference, huh?

Will it get my attention? Yes. Will I buy the product just for it? No. And come to think of it, if there it too much of an excess on the cover, it might persuade me not to buy it instead even if I have heard good things about the game in question.

And of course, I won't refer to the Captain Obvious-worthy case of hentai, porn, etc. Oh wait, I just did.

I find adds "selling sex" so to speak a bit off-putting for very personal reasons: Lara Croft. When I was younger and more innocent she was was my hero, and then I grew up and found out that she wasn't meant for me(who was dying to be a GIRL in game for once) but for the boys who liked her short shorts and barbie-like proportions. I felt betrayed, watching my beloved role-model turn into a cheap collection of voyeuristic camera angles...
same thing happened with a friend of mine and penelope pitstop (from wacky races). as a kid she watched the progammes and grew up assuming penelope was some sort of heroine figure. she then watched a couple of episodes when she was older and realised what a horrendously chauvinistic excuse for a character penelope was.

i hate sexism.

Oh yeah. I remember that ad campaign. It might help their case if I knew who the fuck Alicia Silverstone was, too.
