Off, because I dislike shoes. I'll go for a walk without them sometimes.
I still make others take them off though, as we've got a rather expensive rug that mud is drawn to.
One time, someone didn't take their shoes off, trailed mud all through the house, saw our white rug (Couple of hundred pounds), said "That's nice!" stood right in the middle with all that mud, then said "Shame you let it get so muddy"
