Yeah, I was big time burned out. Which is why I recently purchased a Wii I found for fifty bucks. I had forgotten what it was like when a game has charm and is fun to play. Thank you Pikmin 2 for reminding me what a game is something you play, not something you slog through.

No I'm not burned out of "all" shooters just run of the mill going through the motions shooters.
Hell my second favourite game of this year so far is Spec ops the line and that had standard game mechanics in terms of shooting but the story and characters elevated it above a standard shooter into something more.

Max payne 3 is a shooter but it pulls off so many other aspects that I loved it despite being the weakest in the series(but the previous two games were some of the best shooters ever IMO so that's kinda a given).

But Modern Multiplayer focused shooters I pretty much couldn't care less about

I don't have such burnout simply because I only play a chosen few of shooters. Although it would be pretty common if a player loves FPS and third person shooters most of all.

I find shooters in general to be only for quick bursts of entertainment. I can't play them for extended durations. The only exception is probably Doom 2.

Kinda, yeah. I just got done with Spec Ops: The Line and that was remarkably refreshing. It would be a contender for my favorite game of all time if it had choices that mattered at all. Like, even cosmetically somehow.

I thought I did but I still seem to enjoy playing Payday:The Heist which I got in a steam sale recently, you could say that it's a modern shooter but I really have no problem,as long as they're fun.

I'm not really tired of "playing shooters", but it's a fact that there's too many shooting games. And please don't start an argument about which is realistic or not.

Borderlands was a really a fresh air in this shooting games saturation, I just hope they can introduce something new to the FPS genre.

Personally i'm just tired of Modern Shooters these days, but not shooters as a whole.

I can still enjoy a game of Team fortress occasionally without much burnout.
There's a difference in that. TF2 is more of an arcade shooter where realism almost doesn't exist at times. Meanwhile games Modern Shooters like MW3 focus on being as realistic as possible.

As for me, every year I buy the newest CoD (I know I'm a sheep, and I play the hell out of it for like 2-3 months. Then I stop and not pick the game up for a month, then only play sporadically. I enjoy the games for the new guns, and addictive gameplay, but not for it's lack of innovation. It's all the same format with just a new skin covering it up. Yet I still have a pre-order in for Black Ops 2, and i'm sure I'll repeat the cycle again.

To be burned out of a genres just shows that you want to enjoy more than one single type of game. I feel that those people who only play Fighting, RTS, or FPS games and nothing else miss out on the many gems that exist in the gaming world. So embrace your love of other genres. It's what helps our industry grow....wow I just went on a tirade lol.
Well I meant that in the sense that TF2 isn't a modern shooter, so I often have a better time playing it without getting tired of it.

Modern shooters have sort have lost my interest over the years, not that they're bad, but mostly because they feel uninspired these days.

Yeah it doesn't help there are literally 15 of them a year it seems, and they all seem to be very similar with just a few modifications.

Shooter burnout? Naaah, nothing is as fun as Lasering some kids flying around in a Banshee in Halo: Reach.

However I am suffering a bit of a burnout off WoW due to people on my raidteam being useless and not pulling there weight making us wipe at Ultraxion HC for the last.... month I believe.

I feel like these modern shooters are all desperately pandering to the COD crowd, limiting their potential for a real innovative title in exchange for a safe guarantee that people will buy their games.

Shooter burnout? No.

Modern/military shooter burnout? Yes.

I still have fun with TF2 and Tribes, and have recently installed Blacklight. As well I am looking forward to Natural Selection 2 when it comes out. I recently reinstalled BF3, and that lasted all of an hour before I had enough. Though for a mix of realism and fun, I want to try out DayZ, though I will wait for the standalone as I don't really want to buy Arma for it.

As a side note, if I do feel like getting a good shooter game and story, I still have the Half Life or Deus-Ex series to go back to.

Truer words have not been spoken. It's like I said in an above post, all of these shooters are compared to CoD, therefore all studios try to be more like CoD, leading to a lack on innovation. I do like how more studios are going for what I call the "post-modern" shooter. These are the titles that look into the near future with prototype technology and shows what could soon be realistic combat. Tom Clancy Future Soldier and Black Ops 2 are the big ones leading the charge here. So now maybe we can slowly get away from generic modern day shooters and shake things up.
