Poll: shotgun or sniper which do you prefer?

I'll take a rifle with an under-slung grenade launcher or shotgun, as you can do most things with a rifle that a sniper rifle can do, yet it has smaller easier to carry ammo, and you aren't as likely to run out so quickly. That or a P-90 bullet hose....I mean assault weapon. (15 rounds/second...wtf over. The thing doesn't even carry 4 seconds worth of ammunition, and it's magazine is a huge 50 rounds.)
i feel the same way besides i like the way the combat is when i have to think quick which increases when stealth comes in when i am hunting a sniper. besides everyone has a right to fight back for there live/score killing someone when they don't know is fun but the fun multiplies when you do it up closeMalloClam said:

You can snipe with a shotgun in that game.
As a matter of principle, I avoid the use of shotguns in multiplayer due to how annoying I find it to be killed by them.
Example of such annoyances is below, translated from xbox live language into proper English.
Guy with shotgun: Exuberance! I have killed you.
Me: Yes indeed my good man, however did you do it?
Guy with shotgun: Why good sir, I do believe that I used this shotgun to shoot your genitals at close range. Thus proving that I am superior in the field of digital battles.
Me: But good sir, you did not even aim your weapon. I feel that no skill was involved on your party and I am most indignant towards the foul tactics that you have employed.
Guy with shotgun: If that is truly the way you feel, then perhaps I shall make my character repeatedly crouch over the body of your fallen character. Signifying that I am partaking in a lewd act.
Me: How crude. I do not approve.

Depends on the game. I'm usually the first to pick up a sniper rifle, but in some games (L4D) it's not the best choice. Not to say that I'm not good with it in L4D, but I need a good team backing me... not like that comes as any surprise. I dislike sniper in TF2 (my best streak is only 20 headshots) because of the giveaway dot; scattergun/FaN all the way.
I'm with Signa on this one. Shotty has plenty of margin for error, sniping can mess you up big time if you make a mistake.

Since shotguns require much more in the way of testicular fortitude and actual skill (don't whine on to me about how little aiming is required, shooting a strafeing target at close range is just as hard as shooting a target that's moving slowly through a 50x scope) I not only opt for them but believe that they are the superior weapon choice.
In console games I like to have both:
Shotgun lets me hit things at close range, Sniper at a distance.
Give me an assault rifle and I am cannon fodder.
PCs however, both:

I know that CQC does require skill and aiming, but you have an odd idea of sniping. My targets are often smaller than 30 pixels in height, moving in areas of dense foliage and often exposing very little of their body from cover. I think that shooting a target that small in those conditions takes more skill than shotgunning, despite the fact that sniping is far less chaotic than CQC.Iron Mal said:

Used to be in love with shotguns until I used the one in Republic Commando. Now every other one I use is lame in comparison. I love sniping in games when I'm hitting my targets properly. If I'm getting bad rego and my crosshair is on someone but the bullet's not hitting them it becomes an exercise in mouse-smashing frustration.
