Well, they are rather fun to play. The problem is that we're getting a new one every year now. Like Onyx said, it wouldn't hurt if they disappeared for a while. I can only cover my brother so much when he buys every single installment of every single FPS that comes onto the market.

It needs to go away forever, because while there are real normal people playing i.e. people on this site the goddamn twelve year olds buying it are annoying and it pushes all other good games out of even the possibility to have people play it, so I want it to take a break so kids can get a new it video game and maybe other good games will prosper

Well I disagree because I think Black Ops is easily the best CoD to date, not only story wise but also in the multi player aspect. So no I don't think they should stop.

all recant CoD's have felt samey, no real development in graphics, typical super soldier macho story, the new one had a freshish undertone, they by they i mean Activision, need to take time to make a truly fantastic one, not release a new one every year, i mean we happily wait for 3-4 years for RPG Sequels, TES is a fine example of this. CoD sadly is shallow as a thing, it consists of GUNS!! KILLS!! and irritating 12 year old kids, but the last is fixable, i very much love the Mute Button. they need to make it grand, beautifull and maby just maby re-boot into something more like BioShock, which was basically a Free Roaming FPS with a liner story, aim for that level.

I don't know what forum you think you're posting on, but quite a lot of people on this site hold no love for Call of Duty.

As it stands, I agree with Onyx. It should take a break for a while.

I don't think it should stop, it would be better if they just slowed down a bit. I enjoy the games, but they don't need to be released so quickly.

Why does everyone keep bitching that the MW2 campaign was too short, then go on to say that the CD4 campaign was awesome and ground breaking? They're the same damn length. And since when does long = good, anyway?

They'll stop making CoD games when people stop buying them. All the "Call of Duty games are getting worse and worse" threads don't mean a thing when the games are selling millions of pre-orders. Obviously some people like them, or they wouldn't keep selling.

I know a lot of you "hardcore" gamers are immediately reacting to this thread with "WTF is this guy nuts?" But, hear me out. The Call of Duty franchise, as we all know, has been getting worse and worse with every new release, and not just online either. We all know the cheating and cheap "n00b tubes" is very prominent in the online but the story has been getting less emmersive and as soon as the newness wears off everyone can agree that most new CODs suck. Honestly I don't think Trearch or IW has put out a good COD since 2007 with COD4, and despite it being the biggest FPS franchise to date, I think they need to put this cow they've been milking dry for 10+ years to rest.
CoD4 did not need a sequel, and we didn't need CoD4 with WWII badly pasted over it. MW2 multiplayer was great on paper, but the obvious abuses did not help (Not as bad since Blops came out). Then Black Ops comes out with a terrible story, half assed multiplayer, and the gaming nicotine- zombies. If we know Activision, and we do, all they look at is sales numbers. So as long as CoD is selling, their studios will keep shitting them out. I heard a rumor the next CoD is an MW prequel with Ghost. WTF?

I like how the same people saying yes, are the ones who buy final fantasy 754.

No. Simply cause I look at CoD like a business, like I look at any game series. Its like asking if FF should just stop. Its irrelevant. As long as it makes money, they're going to make more. Thats the point of a business.
This and others like it are valid points, but should we as gamers WANT these businesses who make our valued entertainment to put out something we'll get tired of so quickly? Sure, "money makes the world go round", and while accepting all the problems that come with that statement, if a company can do something well, they should do it. But some timing is nice too. Nostalgia is a powerful force; I think CoD is at least one title that can stand to take it slow for about half a decade with its fanbase still remembering it.

I personally would rather play a good single player game like Fallout that keeps me hooked for months than have to deal with some of the a$$holes online in COD and debatably Battlefield or HALO. Maybe the next COD should just be an outstanding career and no online, or selective online like the new Combat Training feature.

oh yes! the game that sold over 2 million copies (CALL OF MOTHERFUCKING DUTY MODERN WARFARE 2) is DEFINITELY in a downhill trend. oh and that statistic of being the most popular multiplayer game to ever exist? pure myth and hear-say! yes they should certainly close down after this massive success of black ops. there games are so shit that EVERYONE buys them.
being serious now, fuck off. just don't post this stupid shit. personal opinion is not cared for unless you have an objective view on this subject as well. i hate the call of duty series, but i know for a FACT they are even now nearing the apex of their popularity. post this with anything that has this much popularity, especially one without an objective view, is gonna get you so much stick it'll hurt for weeks. now go and post something that presents a proper question.

The only way to stop it is to not buy, and that wont happen. Dont look at the medium and tell it to change when everyone makes it think thats what the target audience wants.

I think the series needs a reinvention, a game that basically did what COD 4 did to the franchise.
If Activision keep on releasing pretty much the same game every year, people will (hopefully) start tiring of it.
unfortunately, as long as they keep making new military hardware the modern warfare series is going to prosper, at least on DLC for some time to come.

Or you could just, you know, not play it. It sounds to me like a ton of people like these games, so why the hell should they stop being made?

This is kind of a general response, btw. I haven't played CoD since the second game. I just hate it when people think a franchise should stop just because they don't like it. No one is forcing anyone to play anything.
So you hate when people think a franchise should just stop and I hate it when people say other people should just stop. It's just an opinion you know since we're pointing out the obvious, it's not like the franchise is just going to die because of one thread, or even 100.

They gave their reasons and they believe it's going nowhere, what the hell is wrong with that?

OT: I don't believe they should stop but I reckon they could try and make something else in-between games. It seems they release a new COD every year, how about they make a slightly bigger COD that can last for 3 years and try and be creative for once, they seem to have the money.

It just won't ****ing DIE! You could destory Treyarch HQ and disembowl the entire development staff and the series would still continue (Like Charlie Sheens Sex life). You know who buys these kind's of games (AE Ea Sports and Call of duty)? Self Aggrandizing douche bags who think its cool to swagger about killing people just because there in the US Army. (<------ That right there is Realism ;) This game won't stop selling, as long as Donnie The douchbag and Parol Pete and 14 year old wiggers can live out there distant army fantasy, they'd be glad to scoff out another 60$ for the same thing every year. Thats like if i stole your car, repainted it and sold it back to you (ZP REFRENCE)

Your ideas are fairly extreme, and in my opinion, not well thought out. I?ll lay out my disagreements in simple, clear points.
First off, call of duty is both for casual and hardcore gamers; I know lots of casuals who purchase the game and get into it due to the amount of friends they have playing the game online.
Secondly, I don?t think you can make the argument that the series is getting worse, Blacks ops was a better game than world at war, and modern warfare 2 was both highly reviewed and played.
Thirdly, with black ops released, I have seen extremely few noob toobers, and even if there are some, it?s a weapon, which is realistically placed in the game (I?ve fired one).
Fourth, you may not think they have made a good COD since 2007, but every national reviewer, and millions of gamers who purchased the games would disagree with you. The majority of people purchase Call of Duty for the online play, it?s a huge and fulfilling experience, why should they remove something good, that works, from the next sequel?
Fifth, if you love single player games, like fallout, then buy those games, COD has always had an average campaign option, sure it?s stronger in some games, but it?s never really been amazing, at least in my opinion. I am a fan of deep, single player games, this game is my multiplayer experience, don?t take it away from me.
Sixth, if you don?t like the attitude of online players, don?t use the mic, mute players, or play with friends, it?s really that simple.
