I live in Northern California and it basically feels legalized with how open people are about having weed around here

but about it being legalized i honestly don't care that much, I don't see anything wrong with it but I feel that if it was legalized something would backfire and problems would arise somehow.

I have 0 reasoning, it's just a gut feeling

Sure why not, god knows we here in cali need all the money we can get. Will it happen? Its very doubtful.
actually i heard on a major network (don't remember what one) that over 50% of the pop was for legalization of weed. And if you have ever been down to Venice beach or San Francisco then you know that its legal...or at least not illegal.

Hemp is bad, it leads to filthy hippies.
Great stereotype there =/ Not to mention wrong since as other have pointed out, hemp is not the same as marijuana. Anyways, I don't really care if they do, but here are some other cons to your argument. Pot is cheap, STRONG, and available anywhere unless you don't have ANY friends. Hell I live in Seattle and get offers to buy on the sidewalks 1 to 3 times a day. If the government legalizes pot, it will only be grown by licensed farmers/manufacturers like tobacco is today. They in turn will weaken it by lowering the THC levels and tax the living hell out of it.

Just so everyone knows, um it is totally legal to grow. It is illegal to harvest.

I myself have a few plants growing, I didn't plant them but it grows naturally all around the country. The police, and Department of natural resources know it's here in my yard, and as long as it isn't found to be harvested I'm in a perfectly legal state.

I'm sure anything I could add has been said before. I'll just point out the LD50 has not, to my knowledge been established, it does not cause physical dependency, and is certainly no more harmful than alcohol.

Also, yeah, difference between hemp and cannabis. Oh, and I was under the impression that while Hemp is legal to grow, the licensing and random inspections make it questionably worth it. Of course, when I think about it, I did read that in a head shop (just visiting, don't smoke), so that could be an exaggeration.

Weed = (part of)Drugs.
Drugs = Bad.

Now I don't care what people say, Weed is as (or more) harmful than tobacco, but it is an excellent painkiller.

I'll stay neutral on this one.

But I still say that it should stay illegal, but legal when it is used as a painkiller.
Well done, you not only managed to toe the line with an incredibly weak, actually nonexistent argument, but you then stated your neutrality which rendered your first statement moot, and then managed to completely contradict yourself in the very next sentence.

Wow.

You can smoke yourself to death. You can go to a bar and get hammered and kill someone when you try to drive home. You can buy a gun and shoot someone. There will always be people who will abuse what is available to them, marijuana is no different. Those responsible enough will use it appropriately, and those who lack the capacity for self control in that regard will not. And if someone kills someone else while high, well the other day a guy killed himself, his three kids all under 10, his uncle, and his two kids both under 15 when he rammed into the back of a bulldozer at 150 kph. He was drunk. Why is alcohol legal?
This. I think it would be pretty fair to say "pot should be illegal" if alcohol or all other forms of intoxicating drugs were illegal. Alcohol is legal, why cannot pot be? Especially since some sources speaks for that pot is in many ways safer than alcohol.

I think the pros outweigh the cons.
Regulating marijuana would cripple criminal networks and ultimately save a lot of money, which could be used for..say..rehabilitation.

Appealing to the environment, the economy, crime prevention, chronic pain patients and such misses the point, however important those issues may be.
No one has the right to tell others what they may do with their own bodies and what they may grow in their fields, as long as they are not harming anyone else. That is why cannabis should be legalized.

I think it should be controlled like alcohol or cigarettes. Have a separate area of the Grocery store, just like with liquor and cigarettes, and have people show their IDs before they're let in.

Give it an age rating similar to cigarettes / alcohol, set the tax the same and let rip.

you'll instantly save enourmous amounts of money trying to stamp it out, rake in loads of tax money that was previously funnelled into black markets and generally improve things.

Personally i don't approve of tobacco OR Cannabis, but it's fairly obvious to me that banning it does much more harm overall than controlling it.

I may not like Cannabis, but the least-worse option is the way forwards

Yes, it should be legal. Marijuana is a cousin plant to Hopps, the main ingredient in beer. The effect it has on people is no more severe than alcohol.
That is something I did not know.
