That's one of the great things about CoD. Bullet penetration and common sense has allowed me to kill so many campers it's hilarious. Sure there's legitimate reasons for it but when they've thrown away their fun to ruin others as well people will inevitably hate them for it. It's not so much as "cheap" as it is aggravating that they're not putting any effort into an actual confrontation.

The spawns aren't even that broken, though.
They really, really are.

I've played numerous games so far on Firing Range and Summit where both teams will continuously keep spawning in the same quarter of the map, in some cases I've had people spawn right into my sights for ultra cheap kills.

It's horrendously broken. And then there's Nuke town... complete pandemonium.
Yes, Black Ops' spawn system is essentially a clusterfuck, especially on Nuketown.
However, in the original post, no one had played Black Ops, and I was referring to Modern Warfare 2. Overall, I completely agree with you.

Aha...

Well, in MW2 it's true the spawns weren't that bad. The only time it got really annoying was when it would keep spawning you in the open next to team-mates whe the enemy had air support up.

Camping is a strategy of it's own really.

If they're camping in a house, throw grenades before attacking.

If they're out in the open they're easy pickings.

Just counter their style of camping then stick a claymore there once they're dead.
My favorite line regarding this: (From some guy who wrote a joke story or something)
*Several Marines in Iraq*
"Ok Marines, lets mov..."
*Transport APC Explodes*
*One marine survives*
"F****** SPAWN CAMPERS!"
*Gets shot by a sniper*
*Some other soldier nearby*
"lol noobs"

Yeah
Also, how the hell would you police it, punish people if they shoot someone while theyre near a spawnpoint? The TF2 angle would make more sense, just make the spawn room secure.

I mahself is a Bad Company man (Southern accent). But I feel liek MW2 is systematically better than it, but is ruined by it's own community. I can't go into many games without facing campers, so, should the next one feature a system to punish campers, like, no kill streaks, or, half damage, like in Dissidia with Chaos rules, how if you didn't move after a while you would become stunned. Should the next one have something like that?
As a Bad Company 2 fan myself, I feel your pain. However, penalizing players for a legitimate strategy is rather harsh. However, I would nevertheless like a "discouragement" mechanic; if a player aims down the sites far longer than, say, 30-45 seconds, the gun should start swaying uncontrollably, a la when you max out the "hold-breath-for-accurate target" on snipers. They could just call it muscle fatigue, since holding a gun with live ammunition up to ones shoulder indefinitely isn't exactly the easiest thing in the world.

Are you insane? How would you snipe? You are basically saying people should quick scope rather than camp which is ridiculous as quick scoping is bullshit.

Speaking as someone who hasn't played Black Ops, if it's too easy for campers to have an advantage over run-and-gun players, the only thing that should be changed is the layout of the maps. More alternate routes, fewer wide-open zones, et cetera.

Or, they shouldn't do anything at all. People always go on and on about how CoD should be more realistic---well, real snipers don't quickscope. They hide somewhere far away, don't move, and area denial is usually their main goal.

It's never not been a legitimate strategy, but if people really feel a change has been made, change something a little less personal than score and damage penalties. That just pisses of the players who enjoy camping. Instead, focus on map design, which is a subtler change to game mechanics that doesn't feel like it's punishing the player.

This.

Also, people who ***** about the grenade launcher are rejects. 2 shots per spawn isn't anything to complain about.

Game designers should just make sure that their maps don't allow people to camp in total safety. Camping is stupid, but the real blame rests on the designers.

Why should camping be penalized? It's always been a legit strategy, though annoying at times.

Learn to counter campers, learning to adapt to any situation is what separates good player from bad ones. Take the time to learn rather than ***** and moan.

I think a "camping penalty" is just lazy game design. If you don't want campers, design your maps/gameplay accordingly.

Of course, people will still camp (it's not illegeal) but great level design would reduce it.
This. Goldeneye remake style camping penalties are complete BS. The proper way to deal with this is to either go the old school route of making health and mobility both to high for camping to be anything but a disadvantage -- as seen in pretty much every arena shooter ever -- or go the Battlefield/TF2 route of making camping an important part of a balanced strategy (tm). What I mean by that is, make it so it's a part of team play. In Battlefield, if someone is camping your uncap and you're having a hard time dealing with it, it's because you're losing so terribly that the game is pretty much over. If your team can pull back from that, you deserve to win. In TF2, spawn camping is generally a major part of the early game in certain map types, where a big part of it for the attacking team is simply breaking out of the spawn, which is possible, but takes teamwork and the right team balance. The simple possibility of camping isn't a sign of bad game design; camping itself being unbalanced is the sign you're looking for.
