I ask this because of several things. The first being cases from certain countries, like Germany, in which stuff like that is banned from video games. For example, the bloody mess perk in Fallout 3 was changed so that it would only add weapon damage, and that you can't shoot off limbs.

The second point comes from Halo. No matter how we feel about it, there are a lot of younger kids who play it, hell, most of the players are teens, even though it has an M rating. The reasons listed for this are, among other things, Violence and Extreme Gore.

My question is, should these things be censored/jack up the ratings like this? Knowing that violence is everywhere and does come naturally, even to toddlers, and that gore is just a graphic depiction of the human or animal anatomy?

An example being, when I was 12 walking with my friend, we found a dead bird with its head caved in and its brain falling out, that would get a game an M rating. I've also been playing games like Starcraft and Warcraft since I was 4, but it hasn't affected me.

Also, I'm not talking about keeping younger kids off of online games, that's not the topic, so you'll have to keep that bottled inside for a little bit longer.
No. Period.

All real and testable evidence shows that violence in video games does not result in violence in real life.

Every person who has ever stated that there is a correlation between violent video games and violent activity has ignored mountains of studies done on the subject. Worst still some even cut out lines from case studies that actually showed no connection but used those lines to make it look like there was one.

Violent games don't make people violent. Violent Video games are at an all time high and Violent Crime is at an all time low.

Period.

There is no discussion unless we can also discuss other fantasy scenarios like the sun being made of jello, or flying tea cups that have taken over the minds of British people.

The reason I'm so extreme about this point is the drama that it stirs up makes these kind of people:

i think they should. take manhunt for example. children shouldn't play it, it's far too violent for anyone younger to play.

I guess it depends on how gory it its. If it's like Assassin's creed, then no, you'll see worse on the news. If it's like Fallout 3, however, then probably.

I like that somethings are censored for younger players. Even I get a bit thrown off in some games where it seems like they make every corpse explode into flying limbs. Gore and violence are a necessary part of shooters.. but there's a point where it stops adding realism/ satisfaction and just becomes a demonstration of the games graphics and physics engines.

Blood shouldn't be censored, neither should violence and what I mean is that it can be in teen rated games

But stuff like ripping the intestines out of a woman or disemboling a human with a knife should hike up the rating

I like Ratings because there just a warning. It's up to the parent. If you don't mind the violence let them have it if you do mind it don't.

I agree with you. I was just trying to sound as unbiased as possible to encourage conversation, while still getting my point across.
