Yeah, I agree with this. Twitter is the idea of taking a social network site and removing the beauty of actually being able to speak in full sentences which encourages the use of words like LOL and ROFL. Words that I seriously loathe...
You know guys, it really helps to read the OP first.

I know you probably wanted to get in the "cool not-caring" snark, but read the first post.

Not really to send stuff, but just to see all these hilarious tweets everyone else seems to get

I'm not really a social media guy, but I'm thinking about joining twitter. Not really to send stuff, but just to see all these hilarious tweets everyone else seems to get. So should I even bother joining it? And just to clarify, I thought Facebook was stupid, but I joined it and really like it.
Hey OP, I would join. I've got one, and I've sent maybe 4 tweets total. Just questions to people I follow.

It's a handy way to keep up with stuff that interests you, and you can pick and choose what shows up. I've never seen anything from any of the "attention whores" people in this thread are blathering about. I just follow a bunch of sports writers/bloggers and World News type of stuff

It's like the guy above me said, a shortened RSS feed
I did read the OP. I was responding with agreement to the guy I quoted, not to the OP itself, hence my quote.

Still, I guess I didn't make my point clearly and I forgot to actually respond to the OP. I'm a little woozy because I haven't eaten all day. My bad.

OT: If you want to you should join twitter regardless of the poll's outcome. It does have its perks just like Facebook if you want to stay updated on information about your bands or TV shows. Personally I prefer Facebook for that since it means that they can actually write full sentences. While twitter has the word limit that's set very low it does also mean it got the advantage that no-one expects them to post big and it's more frequently updated.

In conclusion: Try it out and decide if you like it.

I think twitter can be a great resource if used well. If you're a hobbyist or business professional it's a really great way to keep tabs on your niche or industry and connect with other people who are interested in the same things as you. By tweeting the CEO of one of my favorite companies, I ended up actually getting an interview with the company.

If you're looking to network, don't discount social media. If you keep the right kind of profile, I think it can be a worthwhile use of your time. It really just depends on what your goal is.

I personally prefer Facebook to Twitter. I guess it depends who you're following, but I find that Twitter's general style is likely to cause people to post quickly written, short and usually pointless posts. You really have to sift through tweets for anything moderately relevant, whereas, as long as you only follow/like the most important things on Facebook, you should be able to keep up fairly well. So, yeah, I would say not to bother with Twitter unless you have to.

Yeah, it makes for nice way to get some free chuckles from various comedians or quick updates from productive celebrities. I highly recommend Megan Amram, but you might as well just look at her page and her page alone. She's pretty much the best there ever has been or ever will be. My all time favorite was "Opinions are like assholes. I once saw my uncle's."

I like the Twitter. I can rant and stuff and a couple of people sometimes respond which is cool. And I can promote my reviews, which I suppose is a good thing.

Nobody will ever read your reviews, who are you kidding? YOU CAN'T MAKE ME USE TWITTER MARTER!

OT: Depends on what you want out of your social media website. Twitter offers information about celebrities and corporations and stuff at a far faster rate than other websites will... If you follow the right pages or whatever. I'm the wrong guy to ask because I'm getting further and further removed from websites like it. Stupid me, liking face to face conversations. :D

I'm by no means a social guy. The only social thing I've got is Facebook, and even then I only check it every now and then for about 10 seconds.

Personally, I don't see much use in it, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I have one, mostly to keep up with sports teams and other things that I enjoy. Also I use it to keep in contact with people who I like, but still want to maintain a level of anonymity with.

So yeah, I think using twitter for your stated interest isn't a bad idea.
