But you can't play GBA games on a DSi.
And, you can't play any GameBoy (ie. Brick) games on the DS.
If you really need to play GBA games, you can get a GBA SP for cheap.

As I can see, the only reason to get a DS over a 3DS is to transfer GBA pokemon to DS pokemon.
However, if you haven't gotten a DS by now, you're most likely not into pokemon to begin with.

So, if one can afford it, I'd suggest getting a 3DS now, rather than getting a used DS and possibly upgrading later.

DS Lites rock. They look cooler than the first one, and they can play GBA games. And they have good battery life. And they are as strong as hell. My little green one has been alive for a good while now, and my one that I dropped 2 meters onto concrete face down still works. Sure, the top screen is barely attached, BUT IT STILL WORKS! :D

Hey, if you buy a DS just get an old first gen. They run all the newer games and they're dirt cheap.
No, no, no, no.

I'd say a DS Lite. It gives you access to the wide library of the DS and the GBA.
Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Old DS's are big, clunky and faggy. DS Lite's are exactly the same except I'd fuck one if it were at all possible (that's a good thing). In fact, I just bought a brand new, Crimson DS Lite from Best Buy and have been playing it non-stop for about three weeks. Pokemon is the shit.
Puh-lease. My 'fat' DS is awesome. Two of my DS lites broke.

.-. One of them said one day, "screw this. I shouldn't be opened and closed." now the top screen flops around.

New Super Mario Bros
Mario Kart

I'd suggest a DS/DS lite.

Cheap
Wide variety of games

A 3DS is pointless right now as it's 250$ yet has no big games yet. I imagine I'd like to be interested in the games they have when I do get a 3DS, so I can play a 3DS game when I get said 3DS.

Well the DS is one hell of a machine with one hell of a library, but the 3DS has some pretty cool stuff coming out. Might be worth buying the 3DS, playing DS games on it until all the good stuff comes out. At the same time, old DS's are really cheap now.

Well, the 3DS doesn?t really have a great launch line up, the games aren?t going to come for a little while yet. Although the library of DS games will be open to you if you don?t mind the wait. Or you could get the original DS or DS light that has both DS and GBA games. I don?t know how much you would want a new Xbox. Will you want to play the games again, finish any of them or are you pretty much ready to sell them off? You could always get an Xbox now and then get a 3DS latter on when it has a better selection of games and will have gone down in price.

People who say the launch games on the 3DS clearly havent bothered to play any of the. I think any type of gamer can find 2-3 3DS games to enjoy right now and by June the 3DS library will expand nicely and Devil Summoner Overclocked 3DS will be out too.

3DS price wont drop for a year at least, I am sure tho for the Xmass season there might be some nice packages to buy. Bu, I am sure it will be a launch title thats included in that deal. If you have the cash just get the 3DS IMO.

I was actually thinking about buying one myself. I would recommend buying a Lite becasue my 1st generation DS's screen broke off because of the attachment thing. But do get a DS.

Pokemon
Fire Emblem
ChronoTrigger
Golden Sun
FFIV
Animal Crossing
The World Ends With You

etc.

It's a good handheld device.

The DS has the best gaming library out of all current gen consoles, so yes. Get a DS. A 3DS would be better because of all of the awesome games that are coming out soon.

Don't encourage them by buying their product. The proprietary hand held gaming system needs to die. Phones need to take that position over.

You know, an item that you will likely always have on you, an item powerful enough to play these games,
one that you've already paid good money for.

If you stop buying them, they will be forced to evolve. It wouldn't be hard to make an app to allow them to be played on phones. They're still putting out their own hardware because they know people will buy it.

Pick up a used DS Lite imo. They are dirt cheap now and get the job done. I've had mine for several years now. I don't intentionally throw it across the room but I am don't baby it either and have had no problems. Of course, knowing my luck it will break the next time I use it. You could get a 3DS but I recommend giving one a test drive first. Several people I have talked to say they either can't see the 3D at all or it is so fuzzy they just turn it off.

That Depends, how many games for the 360 do you have?
Also I don't think its the same playing a portable than a console

If I were you, I'd get the new 3DS. Star Fox 64 is being remade for that platform, and it will most likely play the new Pokemon games better than the previous 3 DS models. You can get a DS-Lite if you want, just know that the new Pokemon games were designed to run on the DSI, so if you want to play them on an older DS, save often, as I've been told it freezes.

Me? I'm upgrading to the 3DS. I can't wait for the Star Fox 64 remake (Do a Barrel Roll!), and as a Pokemon fan, I want the best system to run the new game. I just hope they don't change the charger configuration again.

go with the normal DS. I bet a couple years down the road the 3ds will be a thing of the past myself since the 3d tech will go stale in time but then your call
Haha oh my god, if the DS lasted this long then the 3DS will probably last longer.

Can you play DS games on a 3DS?

If so, you should obviously get a 3DS.

If you spend the majority of your time out and about as say like me it comes in really handy...unless you're all over your iphone. However, I noticed that most of the haters for the DS don't really go out into the general world much and would rather spend their time maxing out formulaes for Eve online. NOT that there's anything wrong with that I'd like to point out, but let me tell you when Steam get's invaded with a zombie virus turning your computer into a flesh eating CPU drive, you wish you had a back up means of entertainment...I should know...
