Poll: Should I buy a Xbox 360, or a PS3?

I really don't care about the Bluray in the PS3

That's all I ever need to see before suggesting the 360.

Why is that? Do you think all the PS3 is good for is the Bluray?

You know bluray isn't just for movies, right?

I would say PS3 'cos I have one and like alot of people, including yourself has said, most 360 "exclusives" are also on pc.

So get more exclusives and go for the PS3, it will probably end up being the better console in the future due to the hardware in it. I also read on a website the failure rate on the 360 is over 54%, which in this day and age is extreme.

The PS3 has the new slims, and a few other ones around 60-250 GB's.
Is the Slim better? Faster?
Or just...smaller?

I am pretty sure it's just size.

I would look into buying the smallest hard drive slim and how much a new hard drive would be compared to the biggest hard drive ps3 and see which is cheaper.

Hm, I'd suggest going through the exclusive lists and picking based on that. Don't be turned of by Xbox Live; it's quite worth the $50 for 13 months (Comes down to ~12 cents a day). As for the RROD, don't worry, it's rare on the new consoles as long as you don't go for holiday bundles (Both my friend and I bought the same holiday bundle, both bricked within a week).

Personally, I'd suggest the 360. It's more family friendly (my cousin drops by a lot and she's to young for Halo) and I prefer the exclusives oh so much more.

Also, Xbox still has backwards compatibility; PS3 took that out and took away my ability to play Kindom Hearts. That just annoyed me.

Because Demon's Souls and Valkyria Chronicles (the two best RPGs of this gen IMO) would like to have a word with you.

My friend fell asleep playing Demon's Souls...not exactly the best incentive, but hey its all about personal preference

if you were to get a ps3 the get a slim (i would get a 360 if was you.)


if you were to get a 360 get the elite becuase 1. it comes with halo:ODST(free access to reach beta) and a racing game which you said you like(forza motersport 3) and even though you pay for live. its seriously only 50$ a year and thats not much at all.

Only ever got it once in 2 and 1/2 years, got left on for an entire weekend by accident, parents didn't know how to turn it off properly

I have had one RROD.

Friend #1 has had one RROD.

Friend #2 has had one RROD.

Friend #3 has had his PS3 break 4 times.

Ugh. Really don't want to have to deal with that.
Do people just beat the shit out of their systems or what? I've ever had any problems with my ps1, ps2, Xbox, computers, or anything else electronic that i've ever owned. Is it completely random, or what?

My experience is the exact opposite. Out of all my consoles (I've had most consoles since the NES) the only one that ever gave me grief was the 360... twice!

oh i forgot most multi-console and even some exclusives on 360 come on multiple disks so you lose a disk good luck finishing that game

If you take the Bluray player pro away from the ps3, then there aren't enough pros left to warrant buying either console, period. xbox breaks more often than you can imagine, has the most immature player-base in the history of man-kind (including playground sandbox's) and is run by the evil MS juggernaught; the ps3 has very few real games that aren't epic lagfests. So, for the love of god stick to PC gaming and you'll be glad you did, or at least you won't regret wasting $300+ dollars + $70 per game. Your welcome.

I'm only asking for peoples honest opinions on which console they think I should buy tomorrow.
I'm making a real world choice, and asking for help on it.

YES I do realize that there are other threads on this and I'm sure you get this question all the time on the Escapist, but I really do need to know which one I should get.

I guess I'm what you'd call an ace of all games. I'll play anything as long as its fun. Except for Sports games.
But I do like driving games. :3

I'm mostly a computer gamer, and I've played anything from Doom to Dragon Age.
I'm currently playing MW2, Sc2 Beta and HoN (Hero's of Newerth) Beta, and now some more Diablo 2. Seriously, i'm really not that picky about the type of game I play, so the game types won't be limiting which console I pick.
I have a new 40 inch HDTV, and I really don't care about the Bluray in the PS3's because the Desktop that i'll be buying will have a Bluray player.

This will be my first console that I actually own. I've played everything up from Nintendo, but it was always my parents. This will TRULY be my first console that is mine.

You have ONE day to decide, Escapist. Tomorrow I will be buying the console.

EDIT: Okay, a few of you seem to think that i've never played either a Ps3 or Xbox 360.
This is definitly NOT the case. I've played both, and I can't decide which I like playing more.

Assuming you like a challenge, Demon's Souls and a PS3 will last you a long time, as the replay value is incredible.

Online, if you're into that sort of thing, is also free.

I think you'll be happy with a Playstation, I sure as hell was.

Well, i've heard some iffy things about the Playstation online, and my internet isn't all that great out here. What do you think about the PS3 online compared to the Xbox live?

xbox live is infinitely better than psn, but you have to pay a small fee. up to you.
