I for one have only played Metal Gear 3 Subsistence and absolutely loved it, but with the controversial outlook on Ground Zeros' high price, some even claiming it is just a demo you pay for. Should I buy it even though,I have only played Snake Eater and not an absolute die hard fan of the series, so I shouldn't really buy it at all. Or should I buy it right now considering I am quite impressed with what has been showed in gameplay footage and would love to see how it is right now, or buy it later when it is cheaper, or buy it when MGS5 comes out? I would really like to see what I should do.

The game is very fun, don't let anyone mislead you about that. It's extremely satisfying while it lasts. But the lone story mission can be completed in around two hours. There are about four or five bonus missions that last about 45 minutes each, adding some more content, and the map is open world to an extent so you're free to mess around with the game mechanics and guards, but keep in mind that you're paying 30 dollars for a 2 hour game. If you're ok with that, then definitely check it out. If you're tight on money, I would wait.

I haven't played the game, but usually if a game can be completed in less than 10 hours I'd rent it.

The game can be completed in about 8 minutes if you speed run it.

I would tell you not to bother, OP. It's $30 for what's basically a demo. Just watch a playthrough on Youtube for the story and then hype up for Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes is just Pain's Virtuous Mission or Tanker Operation.

Do you like Metal Gear Solid? Do you have a PS4, and nothing else to do with it? Do you think it's worth $30 to play 2 hours of shiny, new Metal Gear Solid on your underused PS4? Do you miss Metal Gear Solid and just need something to tide you over?

If the answer to the previous was yes, then get it.

you could just wait, the problem with Ground Zeros (aside from the price and the length) it's that MGS 5 is still ways away and by the time that game releases you'll probably need a refresher on GZ. So my best advice is to wait until the weekend before Phantom Pain comes out, buy the game that Friday and come Tuesday you should be 100% done with GZ and ready to embark on the PP mind fuck with the story still fresh in your mind. PLUS you'll save some monies since by then GZ will be like $5 at retail, if not less

seems the most logical thing to do if you ask me :)

I love Metal Gear Solid but I don't know, the price is hard to justify. I don't really understand the decision to make them two separate games. The cynic in me says for the extra money, but I'm sure there's probably more to it than that. In any case, I'm tempted to just watch it on YouTube

I'm not usually one to completely ignore the OP and immediately answer the poll, but in the case of this game, I already have my mind made up and there's nothing in the OP that could sway me. If you do buy this game, buy it much later when the price has gone down. I don't normally want games to fail miserably in sale but I do for this game. If this game does well, it may set a new precedent where other companies start selling their tutorials and demos at half the price of a AAA game. That's bullshit. I really think that if this game does well, it will only be detrimental for the consumers in the future.

They've always done this for mainstream MGS games. Have essentially a paid demo to hype up the main game.

Wait a couple of months and get it for ten bucks. It's short, extremely short and Ebay will shortly be flooded with people who've exhausted the entirety of it's content and can't be bothered with it any more.

MGS, 2 and 3 all had demo discs come out on magazines, sure for number 2 buying ZOE got you access a month or so early, but the $5-10 of a magazine with the demo attached is a bit different to $30 for a 'full game' that's about the length of the demos of old. Thisis the first time I can remember Konami packaging a demo/teaser as a supposedly stand alone product.

As a side note, I bet it's in the box when MGS5 comes out proper.

Its only worth the money if you are going to play it to absolute destruction. Getting all the trophys, all the unlockables, all the S ranks would require you to master the game, which will take time. There is good variety in the side missions considering they take place in the same level. If you're going to play it that much between now and whenever The Phantom Pain gets released then you will find it reasonably priced.

I say it will take some time to master it because I played it for 4-5 hours today and so far I am pretty terrible at it.

I would say no, if you're not a big Metal Gear fan. This is a game for Metal Gear fans/completionists. Luckily for me, I'm both, but I'd leave it just now otherwise.

NO, NO, NO, NOOOOO!!!

I'm probably the last person to say anything since I bought the fucking thing, but there's really nothing here except trying out a bit of the gameplay and gazing at the pretty visuals (if you're going for the next-gen).

It's not even so much the length as it is the fact that it lacks a head and a tail. It's just running around a base for at best 1 and a half hours with little to no story or context.

But if you're a big stupid fan like me, you'll likely disregard all the advice and just buy it anyway, because you just want a taste of that sweet new Metal Gear for yourself. Just beat that inner fanboy to death though, and keep your 30 bucks.

Don't buy it. Not for personal reasons, but for the health of the game industry. Metal Gear Solid is a big franchise and there's a real danger that enough people are going to buy this game that Konami will try it again with something different. If people buy this game then we really will end up in the time of chunks of games being deliberately chopped off so they can be sold at a higher price.

If you have to buy it, buy it used. It'll be cheaper and this is the one time I dont want to see the money get into the publishers hands

Most things I have seen about it amount to it being a 30 dollar demo. So I would hold out. Besides, I don't want the industry to start thinking it should sell what should be free demos.

Dont buy it now, that will just show that selling a demo for 30 bucks is a viable thing.

All in all you dont loose much for never playing it, all of what is amazing about will be in MGS5:TPP, the story only has about 5 minutes of actual content and that is something that you can watch before playing the new one (I even bet they show it again at the start).

If you really feel like buying it then do it when its really cheap (and since you waited for it to be cheap you might as well wait for MGS5 and play both at the same time). Playing just Ground Zeroes will leave you with an itch that you wont be able to scratch, Grounds Zeroes offers very little replayability since the entire game happens in a very small area. All the side missions have you sneaking around the same guards in the same places so even if you go after S rankings it will just be more 4/5 hours of doing exactly the same thing as the first hour (the one that trully matters).

Well. Ground Zeroes is supposed to unlock stuff in Phantom Pain. All of the bonus stuff hasn't been revealed yet, but there will be at least one bonus mission. So GZ technically has more than twice the content than you can initially play, I guess.

Also, your save file carries over, and Kojima mentioned the Fulton system in one of the interviews. That leads me to believe that prisoners/soldiers you capture over the course of Ground Zeroes can be recruited to Mother Base in Phantom Pain (Or the new Mother Base equivalent considering it gets destroyed at the end of GZ)

At the current price, in the current state? NO.

The game is just to short. No matter how much fun it is, getting studios thinking they can charge 30 bucks for a two hour game, at most, sets a very bad precedent. Consumers will buy a really, REALLY short demo if the name on the box is well known enough! They will package it with Phantom or make it a five dollar downloadable at some point.
