Half-Life 2, its episodes, and Portal are all pretty much the same, regardless of platform (aside from some minor frame rate issues on the PS3).

If you intend to play Team Fortress 2, the compilation's multiplayer component, I strongly suggest you buy the console versions. TF2 on the PC has been butchered by its developers and bears no resemblance to the high-quality, balanced game it once was. The community has become fixated with virtual items and the official forum is clear evidence of that. Few, if any, play the game for enjoyment any more. People just want to trade items for other items.

Modders are loved on the PC version, for they bring us gamemodes like TF2 Dodgeball, Prophunt, Zombie Fortress and Surf.

You're talking about hackers, and no they aren't a problem because we have dedicated servers.

you should buy it on all 3 platforms just in case one of them stop working for the sake of portal alone

listen, Most of you have just said'no, don't buy it on PS3, PC only' even though I've stated that the PC is simply not an option, now I can understand if the PC version was like the second coming compared to the PS3 version, but all I can see in difference is some framerate issues and a worse community for TF2(which is probably the only game I'm not entirely interested in)
Since you aren't interested in TF2, go for it.

If it's all you can do, it's all you can do.

If you want it simply for Half Life 2 and Portal, than go for it. If you want it for Team Fortress 2, I suggest getting one of the other versions. That version of TF2 has yet to be patched and probably never will.

PC or nothing dude, PC or nothing.

If you can Ebay it for £10 or less then PS3 will be alright, but really PC is best if your PC can handle it.

For reference I've had Half Life 2 and Portal running on a 2.1Ghz PC with 1GB RAM and integrated graphics. They both ran fine but loading screens were a bit long. TF2 is a bit more processor heavy now.

The PS3 version was the worst version, it wasn't even ported by Valve, but by some other EA developer.

Don't do it man! Save yourself the grief.
Hi, I own a PS3 and the Orange Box. I've also played Portal and TM2 on PC for comparison. And basically...what grief? Seems fine to me, yo.

I've played both.

It's not elitism, just please get the PC version. The game was ported (by EA I think), so Valve doesn't support it.

It's still glitchy, exploitable, and you can't get the awesome mods.

The grief bit was a light hearted ironic joke ^_^

The rest was some lathering of an opinion I only vaguely hold.

^^^ This guy here, he knows more than I do about PS3 version of The Orange Box, take his advice over mine.

I don't know how many people have actually played the PS3 version, but it really is not that bad. I had no problems at all with the games.

Yeah, the real grief was probably how I had to wait FOREVER for them to put it on PS3. But that was then, this is now. Five games in one, yo! Bargain!

I've heard some bad stories about porting issues and how the PC version is vastly superior(P.S, My PC isn't good for games and I don't own a 360)
so what would you do?l

I know this thread is a bit older, but I wanted to update you a bit. I've logged over a thousand hours on the PS3 TF2, but also own it on my Mac. I only have maybe 10 hours on the Mac version. I just like something less complicated and straight vanilla and balanced. I never had any of the issues with framerate (except the first few weeks after launch) and don't care much for trading hats or crafting. It was the perfect game for me and that's all that counts, no matter what other people say about their experiences.

I play TF2 daily on the PS3 so I'm going to be a little biased in its favour. Are modders a problem on the PC version?
If not then go for that (even though you'll be missing out on my charming company) as they can be very annoying on the PS3 and my mates who have it on the PC sneer at me as a consoltard.
However, the modders caused so much grief and people were complaining so much to EA, that they (about 10 days ago) shut down every one of the servers with little hope of a return any time. I hope for your sake that you didn't put too much into the PS3 version, as highly as I think about it. Arrogant, cheating modders used to be able to ruin one game for 15 other people. Turns out, they ruined the whole game for the half a million players out there. Congrats, you lazy modders too lazy to earn some skill, U R teh LEET WINNERZ! Nobody gets to play!
My only hope is that when Steamworks comes to PS3, TF2 will return on Valve's servers.

I'd say no.

As almost a rule, Valve's games run better on the PC. not only that, but they seem to seriously neglect console gamers in terms of updates, etc.

The Half Life packs are fun for a play through, but if you're like me, you'll get bored. Portal has a little more power behind it, and I will come back to it every now and then, but I find it gets stale after multiple play-throughs. (It IS a puzzle game after all, with no changing aspects, and the dialogue/plot can only be surprising/clever so many times.)

Team Fortress 2 is fun, but I think it's awful on the 360. No updates, no attention, and not a very big community.

Just get it on the PS3. Playing the PS3 version is better than not playing it at all.

If you're just going for Portal and Half-Life 2, it'll be fine, you'll just have to deal with long/constant loading.

No, the orange box is garbage.

Half-life 2 is subpar in quality, portal is just a short crappy gimmicky game. TF2 is a console FPS with no localized multiplayer (Which is unforgivable).

It's just a shit stain. Avoid.

While I've never played the ps3 version seeing as I have an xbox 360 and bought The orange box on PC, I hear the PS3 version really isn't that bad [http://www.destructoid.com/stop-whining-ps3-version-of-the-orange-box-isn-t-broken-please-relax-57936.phtml]
