Besides the fact that you haven't listed the actual surname or given it a reason for WHY it sucks (unless you were trying to imply a poor parent/child relationship), the fact that you want to rename yourself to Nikola Tesla comes across as either some creepy tribute or a self-absorbed cry for attention.

Think about it. For the sake of argument, let's say you actually did change your name to Nikola Tesla. How many people do you think will actually get the reference (I, for one, first heard of the guy only after playing Fallout 3)? For those who do, however, what do you think would happen if people realized that you had your name deliberately changed to that? I can understand when parents give their children such names, but changing it yourself might earn you even more flak.

Are you brilliant at all forms of science? If not then go with Radeonx's idea. Or PM me your surname and I'll see if I can translate it into Sindarin.
pretty much what he said
naming urself Tesla is as blasphemous to some as naming yourself jesus christ.

i actually have a friend who wanted to take her mom's last name insted of her father's... hahahha a minor mishap later and she is legally named Star Gazer(neither parent's surname).

but honestly if u wnana change it you may as well
i'm lucky my name rocks
people ask me alot of i changed it but then again i live in cali so i guess changing your name to sound cool is normal out here

I heard someone mention Tesla?

But seriously, unless you can live up to that name don't do it. I can assure you he will be notified and trust me, he won't be pleased.
If you do nevertheless start building a Faraday cage, you'll need it when he smites you with 100.000 volts!

Why not go with <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikola_Sarcevic>Sarcevic instead? He's even a rock musician!

Well you'll probably change your name regardless of the comments left in this thread but I personally wouldn't bother as it would mean that you have to change so many documents(time consuming and possibly expensive) and you could upset your parents.

Meh, I haven't spoken to my dad in ages, I doubt he would know or care. As for my last name, it's Oxford. Yeah, university, but still, when I sign stuff, it looks like crap :(

Yah but I/we would like to know your current last name if you would like to share it with us?

the only concern i have is how your family members will react to you choice.
I have a pretty awful last name and have considered changeing it ( my initials are BS)
also my last name is Sayewich (a two letter diffrence from sandwich.)

I also have known people in my life who have changed their last name because of parents divorces and complexity of previous last name(they usally go with their mother's last name.) Changeing your last name needs a lot of thought acknowledge that you will be living with this decicion for the rest of your life.
so just choose wiseley

Trust me when people read nikola tesla their first thought will be "i bet he did this to try and be funny". Iether your father (if you tell them thats your original family name) or you.
Dont try and make your name a joke. Also cops will so not believe you when you tell them your name. What country are you from? What was the original name? This would help me give you an idea. Smith isnt a good russian name, petrotrovitski is, pronounced, PEH-TROT-TRO-VIT-SKI. Make it that, its an awesome russian alias i came up with in the event i need to run from the law. Dimitri petrotrovitski away!

Oxford?? Dude, that's brilliant.

OT though, changing your last name is quite the decision. You might want to talk this over with a few people close to you.

Welcome to the Escapist btw.

If you want to, seems a little tacky.
I've been thinking about changing mine, currently Howe (e is silent) and people prononce it Howie, to Howel to fix that problem.

One of my teachers changed their last name to "Wynn". When she got married, she kept her last name, I mean, who -wouldn't- want to be referred to as "Ms. Wynn"?

OT: I like the idea, but I get the felling that if your name's "Nikola Tesla", people will either think that you changed your -whole- name and/or they simply won't take you seriously.

Wait what? Seriously?! My middle name and last name is James and Cook and I live in Australia. Do you know how incredibly annoying it is whenever someone sees my name?! "OMG James Cook, was your grandfather James Cook?!" Because I've NEVER had ANYONE make that connection before, dipshit.

I guess because Nikola Tesla is less known by the idiotic masses then you're less likely to be in this situation but when you are it gets old FAST.

You think you have it bad? My name is Jake Smith. Well, actually its Iakovos Smith, but still, Jake Smith sounds so common. v.v Stick with your name. It'll cost a lot to do and you'll end up regretting it.

Edit: Thats Iakovos with an i, not Lakovos. I just capitalized the i is all
