Anything you can get on PS3, you can get on Xbox, with only a few exceptions not even worth mentioning. And Xbox's are waaaaay cheaper

I'd go with playstation 3, sure, I've never owned one, but my xbox literally has broken five times now, the last time just two days after its supposed repair, so eff the bloody things.
They have fixed that problem now mine has not broken once.
Xbox ix cheaper and has more games.

If you like RPG's better, get a PS3
If you like Shooters better, get a 360

Most of the good games are multi-platform anyways.

Killzone 2
God of War 3
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Motorstorm
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Metal Gear Solid 4
Wipeout HD
Flower
Heavy Rain
Infamous
Little Big Planet

Yeah, totally not worth mentioning those games, all with a metacritic score of 80 or higher...
...Would you care to explain to me how 3 unreleased games got a metacritic score of 80 or higher?

No violence eh.
Your best bet then is either buy a PS2, or get a Gamecube controller and start working through the GC catalogue on your Wii.

Both the 360 and PS3 are pretty violent game centric, unless you want to play sports games, which are the same as they were for the last eight years but with slightly higher resolutions than before. The PS2 has some of the best platformers ever (Jak & Daxter, Beyond Good and Evil, Ratchet & Clank, Psychonauts) whilst the cube has Zelda and Metroid games (maybe a bit shooty).
It would limit you to second hand but it's a more cost effective solution than a new console populated almost entirely by blood and guts type games.

If you have to get a new one though, I would say PS3. Little Big Planet seems to have more (potential) lifespan than any other console game around.

Anti-violent games go for PS3 for me, mostly because I don't feel the X-Box works well for any games other than shooters. Naturally the Wii is my first choice but you already have one so, yeah, PS3.

Indigo_Dingo says:

You may have to be a bit more specific. "Anything violent" is a really ambiguous term. Do you mean nothing that breeds hostility? Nothing wherein the death of others is your goal? Nothing with blood?

Why cant you play violent games? is it for a kid? are you a kid? If we knew then we could give you a better answer then "well i guess this game has violence... :/"

I voted 360 cause I had to represent!

Read first thread? Non-violent? And most of the above are the same game anyway, just edit the details.

Which console allways depends on the question: What you want?

Do you want a console, that works as multiplayer console as good as a single console? Then choose 360.

Do you want something for having some fun in the evening after working and not bother about anything? Cleary PS3.

Personally i prefer the PS3, but the major reason there is something else. It's freaking Microsoft, that made the 360. And the way they put it on the market, looked to me like they just want to have the advantage to have some better version of PS2/Xbox on the market before Sony did. Also the technology in the 360 wasn't completly tested. It ended up that some people had to sent their 360 back to get a new one. To me the Xbox 360 is more a marketing strategy then something, which was made for entertainment.

Fair enough, but I thought they would be worth mentioning considering they are out this year. Plus everything so far seems to suggest that they will be quality titles. Either way to ignore them because they have yet to be released doesn't seem sensible when considering purchasing a console.
I remember another game that was going to be epic before it got released. Too Human, and that game completely blows. Never assume anything.
