Red Dead will hold you longer if you're a western fan, or fond of an open ended world derived from reality. Although Mexico is the single most boring, tedious chapter of a game I have played in the last ten years. Abandon all side missions, speed through the story, and move on ASAP.

Nier is a great hack'n'slash, not un-akin to the 'Fable' franchise (for lack of a better comparison mechanics wise) with quirky characters, hit and miss voice acting, and humorous parodies of other games throughout. The Diablo II section had me cheering.

You'd have to ask someone close to you, or play these games yourself if you can't decide between them. They've got a lot to offer if you've got a lot of interest.

You can't really compare them, ones a sandbox game and the other is an rpg...

However, to even things out since RDR is ridiculously popular, I shall vote for Nier. I found the story in Nier to be far more interesting, pacing is miles better in it as well.

Hm, tough choice since there both very different games, both very good games aswell. I'd say RDR just edges it for me though, love Neir but I got more out of RDR than I have from Nier.

Read Dead was good but not amazing. However, I've never played NIER so I wouldn't know. I clicked Other, I'm sure Mass Effect 2 has dropped, (it's like 20 bucks at gamestop, I don't know about Amazon) otherwise there's Fallout New Vegas, Assassin's Creed II or Brotherhood...the list of better games goes on.

What kind of question is this. It's like asking whether you want a plastic sausage or a 14oz steak in peppercorn sauce.

Then again, you have an anime DP so perhaps Nier for you.

Well that depends completely on what kind of games you like. They're totally different <.<
I personally enjoyed Nier, it had a great storyline but mediocre (read: too easy) combat. Haven't played RDR since I never really liked the wild west, but from what I've heard it's a pretty good (although vastly overhyped) openworld rpg.

I know it's too late, but I'm still gonna say NieR despite not playing Red Dead Redemption. However, you can probably find better deals on NieR than that. I saw one going for $15 used at Gamestop, and it looked like it was in good condition.

I fail to see how the two are related.

So, as I was planning on buying a couple games soon. After I put the ones I was going to buy into the Amazon cart (Persona 3 FES and Deadly Premonition, BTW), I noticed that I still had 30 bucks left. It also turns out that Red Dead Redemption (a game I have been wanting for a while) was 30, but NIER (a game of which I am curious and have heard many good things about) was also 30 bucks. So, I am at a dilemma: Which should I get, NIER, Red Dead Redemption, or something else? What do you think?

EDIT: Hm... It seems the poll is broken, and I cannot fix it. Hate it when that happens.

EDIT2: Ah, their we go, everything is working again.
If you like JRPG's Nier is quite a good action oriented one, however as much as I like Nier, I have heard Red Dead Redemption is immensewly good and it did win several awards, as well as being [ESC's] Game of the year.

I'd suggest you Red Dead Revolver

then Red Dead Redemption
they have like nothing to do with each other theirs like 2 or 3 no so important things
wat?

I don't understand what you mean, bro
He means that the two have nothing to do with each other story wise. Redemption has a few references to Revolver but you'll only notice if you really pay attention. Plus, it does not affect the story. So... it is not needed to play Revolver prior to Redemption.

Japanese Role-playing Games are very similar to Anime, which are also made in Japan.

That's how they're related.

yeah, I know they are not linked story-wise

it's just, well, I enjoyed Red Dead Redemption a lot more after playing Red Dead Revolver (yes, I played Redemption twice), for some reason

thought it would be cool sharing my experience

Red Dead Redemption is an incredible game. However, i haven't played Nier, so my opinion is immediately biased. But speaking of Red Dead's merits, i have to say that you can truly tell how much time and effort the dev's put into it. The atmosphere is spot on, and the story is fantastic. The cast of characters are probably some of the most memorable of this generation of games. So if you're into a well developed story and depth of characters, go with Red Dead.
