He asked for an opinon of WoW not Eve online.

I would take the poster above me's offer. After all it should make it a little easier to decide.
Cool! Shall I use the email address on your profile? I have an alt(ernate) in every Horde race and one alt in the Alliance, so I can run with you from just about any of those starting points.

In all fairness, the game can be very boring, depending on how you play it, and it is VERY frustrating to play when you are new and alone. I know this from experience. Bitter, bitter experience. The key aspect of the game, as far as I am concerned, is the second M in MMO, and that is multiplayer. The point of the game is to interact with other people. People who tried it and quit often did so solo. That's also why it's a complete shitheel move to invite someone and then ditch them (grrrr!) so if I do that, I think you should make a post on the Escapist ranting about people who do that and then calling me out by name. Deal?

If your worried about the price of WOW then try a private server its free, a little laggier and usualy has a large exp boost for quests and mobs

Ah, well then, the same goes for him.

I don't know how the cost plays out elsewhere, but in the US if you go month-by-month its less that $20 a month and it gets cheaper if you commit to more months at a time. I think I'm paying $12.95 a month. That's the price of a movie ticket around here.

I played the 10 day free trail and it only lasted 2.

Probably the most boring game I ever played.

I was doing the same fetch quests over and over and over.
Just like all FPS's are just the same kill quest over and over and over.

Just like all racing games are the same travel quest over and over and over.

Just like all sports games are the same point gain quest over and over and over.

It's almost like everything involves repetition.

DO NOT TOUCH WORLD OF WARCRAFT IN IT'S CURRENT STATE! Wait until Cataclysm hits so when you level you're going to level in the new revamped Azeroth. At the moment leveling from 1 to 60 is a pain in the backside, and level from 60 to 80 is a bigger pain in the backside.
Halfway there.

Leveling from 1 to 60 IS a pain, but 60-80 is about as streamlined as bottle nosed dolphins. I've never played an MMO where it was less aggravating to level up than 60-80 in WoW. Note: I've played lots of MMO's. Quite lots too.

Don't plan to play wow again till November (kudos to those who know why).
You forget that there are no "quests" in any of those games without becoming an RPG, unless you have a game where you get one "quest" where you go throughout the game completing, like Mario to save Princess Peach. You also forget that in racing games all you do is race over and over and over, hence it being a racing game. All you do in sports games is play sports, much like in real life where in a sport you play the sport over and over and over. In FPS's (mostly) all you do is kill people in a first person view over and over and over.

It's almost like everything involves repetition, wait....thats life!

It's quite appealing, but from my personal experience, it gets a bit too frustrating and tedious.

I have been thinking of joining WoW for quite some time now but can't make a dicision. The game looks really fun and I finally got a good enough cumputer to run the game (Only last week) but WoW is really pricey. I think that the game is probably worth it: In depth story, good graphics (for an MMO), cool invironments and overall good reveiws. But I want to know what other people think: Is it worth it, is it a good game and are the players (as a general rule) nice or complete D-bags. Please vote then leave individual information.

:) thanks!
Join it but stay out of Barrens chat and Alliance Trade Chat. It's fun if you play withthe right people or go solo and just kinda float around. But don't be an overzealous douche-nozzle.

(P.S. The Game with all 2[soon to be 3] expansions will cost around $60-$100 bucks depending on where you buy it.)

quest
Noun
1. a looking for or seeking; search
2. the object of a search; a goal or target

I can't really think of any game that doesn't have a goal or target to it, any basically all games are episodic which means they have multiple quests.

Just not many of them outwardly call the journey's quests.

At any rate you basically just said what I said. That repetition is essentially impossible to overcome.

WoW is a great game.......if you play on a private server. The real servers got clambered down with too many virgins and 12 year olds.
Ouch.....I feel like that was an unnecessary burn to me.

I will never look at smiling cats the same way.
I apologize. This was just MY personal experience. My friends IRL never came to play with me like promised, so i was stuck trying to PUG everything. Thats fine, until i realized the 12 year olds needed me to care bear them........

Eh It's true. There are some immature players but there are also a few intellgent ones who are willing to help out the new players. You can always spot them as they'll be the ones dancing on mailboxes with Blood Elves.

This might seem a bit strange to some people, but WoW is a great game for just being randomly nice to people. There was a guy today who was lost in the Undercity (very easy to do) and needed to get to Silverpine, so I walked him over to the flight master so he could fly back, then walked him down to the road and pointed him to Silverpine. Then I buffed him, sent him on his way, and went back to the auction house. And I just did it because I felt like it. I don't need a cookie. It was miserable being a lost newbie, wandering around, killing bats. In retrospect, I should have told him to download Carbonite...

Oh! Yes! Addons! Tools and apps and mods you can install to decrease your frustration in all sorts of ways. Carbonite is the only reason I didn't chew all the keys off my keyboard when I was learning. It's a quest tracker and it makes all the difference.

I'm not saying that I'm shocked by it. I'm actually on a small realm with very few people (As most people in my area get recommended to the Anvilmar or Aearie Peak Realm) and most of the players are either Alts or level 80s. The only immature one is a player called Frumpy who sits in the Cities spamming stupid jokes about homosexuals and such. But hey that's life. There is always gonna be a jackass.
