I have been thinking of joining WoW for quite some time now but can't make a dicision. The game looks really fun and I finally got a good enough cumputer to run the game (Only last week) but WoW is really pricey. I think that the game is probably worth it: In depth story, good graphics (for an MMO), cool invironments and overall good reveiws. But I want to know what other people think: Is it worth it, is it a good game and are the players (as a general rule) nice or complete D-bags. Please vote then leave individual information.
Personally Im not a big fan of WoW. I thought the storyline was Subpar, the PvP is unballanced, and the Quests were a lot of Kill X of this and hold this postion. Leveling up is a pain in the ass because nobody will do the dungeons with you. Guilds are just long friends lists. Above all, if you want to stand a shot in level 70 or 80 or whatever the max level is you have to be online for all the new stuff as it comes out. Above all the game is a lot of work for what it is. If you want a game play EVE, the graphics are better, the quests are much the same, and the economy is 100% player driven.
Play with friends, and do not...DO NOT join a high population server.
Besides the fact that they are too full already, and Dalaran will kill you. All the people in the old high population server's are elitists that require a 5K Gear Score for a simple ToC 10 man raid (you'll learn this lingo soon enough).
If you find a nice realm, a nice guild, and play with friends, it's a fun game.
Don't ask for our opinions. The only thing that matters here is your enjoyment, and no-one can decide what you will enjoy other than you. So just try it out and see for yourself.
I, for one, love it, but that shouldn't matter to you.

DO NOT TOUCH WORLD OF WARCRAFT IN IT'S CURRENT STATE! Wait until Cataclysm hits so when you level you're going to level in the new revamped Azeroth. At the moment leveling from 1 to 60 is a pain in the backside, and level from 60 to 80 is a bigger pain in the backside.
I agree on the Azeroth thingy, but 60 to 80 even worse? Really? If anything it's better than anything you get before. Especially Northrend is Blizzard's best WoW work yet in pretty much every aspect, especially leveling-wise. Story and gameplay is wonderfully interwoven, way better than before making leveling up a lot more enjoyable. And even from level 1-60, the Random Dungeon Finder tool makes leveling way better. Really, that thing is the best thing that happened to WoW since the moment it launched.
I don't know about you, but unless you are a human leveling through the starting areas is a pain.
But your whole point is moot if the OP wouldn't like sci-fi. Plus, EVE and WoW can barely be compared anyway. They're both MMO's, but that's where the similarities end. They truly are radically different, 2 extremes in the MMO world. Hence why I couldn't say that WoW is better than EVE or the other way around as they're so very different.

It destroyed the Warcraft lore thoroughly, especially with Cataclysm.
That's something I don't get. So the Warcraft universe continues on and suddenly it's destroyed? Since when is any game universe static? There isn't just history, there's stuff happening right now as well. Cataclysm is a good example of that, it's just the Warcraft universe moving further.
Now see, that's where i went wrong too. I really like single player RPGs so i thought "Hey, MMOs ought to be like single-player roleplay but with, like, INFINITY story and dialogue, due to how many people there are and the interesting situations that will arise".
Well, fuck no. Now, Blizzard devs put lots of sweat and tears in enviroments and if you read up on Warcraft lore and the books you can really appreciate every detail and there are lots of nice, relevant quests but if you don't have any background, lore is presented to you in the form of a homogenous mass of pop-culture referencing quest dispencers. Since that's all the general public needs.
That's on a normal server however. I play on an abnormal server, or a roleplay server, there your character can have many interesting, unique encounters with other player characters and player-run organisations.
Even if you don't participate you can see how enriched the world is on a RP (I recommend RP-PvP) server. Some nights in capitals it's just people in their RP outfits - patroling, mugging, drinking, talking and the occassional disturbing interracial erotic RP. That's when you notice every character around you, every detail you see about them, they're a mystery apart from that, if they approach you, you don't know their agenda, that 76 level warrior tag tells you zilch.
While usually you just see generic characters running about around you, they might even be randomly generated models with a mail-to-AH script, you won't notice the difference, while in RP you can enter storylines crafted by a real person or group of people and have a immersive experience far above single-player. There are the limitations of the game, and they're a real hinderance, but the RP spirit on my server atleast (Defias Brotherhood EU woo) perseveres and with creativity, addons and a spark of randomness you get a real Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game experience.
It's not all good, sometimes it's frustrating, i haven't played from 3 months. But now i'm slowly being lured in and i'm thinking up Munro Bruys' breakout from Ironforge Asylum.
TL;DR: If you want to start playing WoW, you won't regret starting on a RP server. Even just due to the generally nicer and more communicative populace.
You said WOW is "worth it" for its "I think that the game is probably worth it: In depth story, good graphics (for an MMO), cool invironments and overall good reveiws."
Here is why EVE Online is better. In those aspects. Story:

Graphics:
I think I have made my point.
Cool Environments:
Well, depends on what you mean exactly.
Look at the pictures above if you want to see lots of pretty colors.
I'll do what I can if you meant something else.

Quote me if you need any clarification.
NOTE: Yes I play EVE. Yes I love EVE. Yes I can see why people consider it boring. And, yes I have seen Yahtzee's review. I disagree, but that's another story entirely.
