Italian! 1000x Italian!
I love the language...although if you think about it, French is used more often. I still stick with my choice though.

I really like French. It's a lot of fun, and you also have an excuse to make crepes and what may be the best sandwich-

Le Croque Monsieur.
It is a deep fried grilled cheese and ham sandwich.
It's pure genius.

Anything but French, it makes people think you're a pedophille.
You're gonna have to explain that one to me.

I like Italian, the way it sounds and flows. Although both may be equally useful for your art studies, consider that French seems to be more prevalent throughout the world than Italian...chances are French speaking people would be found in more places in the world than Italian speaking people would.

French. It's more widely spoken in the world. Though saying that you're probably not going to visit Quebec or Algeria anytime soon...

...thinking about it Italian would help you to show off in Italian restaurants, it sounds more romantic and gives you a loose grasp of Latin...

...so in conclusion: Portuguese.

Italian is easier, French is more widespread. I took Italian, it's probably one of the easiest languages to learn how to read and write in. Very simple spelling and pronunciation rules.

Areas of the world when French will be useful due to historical reasons:
-Canada
-France (duh), some european countries like Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg also speak it
-Africa
-Some parts of asia, notably around former Indochine, now Vietnam

I might be wrong, but don't believe Italian is as widespread.

As I don't speak italian, I can't compare the languages though, but there is more to a language then just how it sounds.
Language defines how we think and the concepts that serve as basis of ideas and imagination, french words tend to have powerful connotations that makes their wordplay very vivid and colorful but also very tricky due to its nuances, by comparison, speaking of the languages i'm fluent in, english is much more straighforward and functional and spanish is more passionate, a lot of the times downright agressive imo (goes with the passion i guess).

On locational stand point French has many more giant cathedrals, castle, museums, and post modern architecture. Italy has a longer architectural past featuring buildings from about 3000 years ago all the up to modern time and everywhere in between.

On a personal bias learn Spanish because we only speak two languages in America: American and Mexican

Italian. A much cooler and sophisticated language. It rolls off the tongue and is one of the best sounding languages. Besides. Assassino! Recquiascat in pacce.

You're not advocating piracy here, are you?
I think he's not advocating that software.

Is it any good?

Italian's harder to learn, and converts to other languages more difficultly. You can guess what a french word is when you see it from it's latin/greek roots or similarity to English, but by fucking god was I confused in Italy.

Italian sounds much better. Since frensh is a much more accent heaavy language you will suck at speaking it. Italian....most people with some training can fake the accent so if you actually learn the language youll sound sexy to the girls.
And on general Italian> French

French, its much more of a widespread language and would be much more useful.

It's not the best software. You might be better of getting a teacher, it probably costs a similar amount.

I guess it also depends on where you live, what you plan on doing, and where you plan on visiting.
