I simply feel like playing an MMORPG and Guild Wars seems like the best option for one reason. It has no subscription fee. I'm broke. It's rather cheap, actually. £14.99 for all three games and the expansion pack. I have no idea what the hell '£' is. I thought it was the symbol for euro dollars but my friend told me it was pound.

Will there be any kind of bonus for GW2 if you play GW?

Oh, and I can't try out the trial. My brother downloaded it and simply left it there to expire.

P.S Anyone one of you planning on playing Guild Wars 2? Or are you playing WoW and enjoying Cataclysm? Playing some other MMORPG? Perhaps waiting for 'The Old Republic'?

It's been out for awhile so I think it's kinda dead, I have no idea. Once I got all my characters though the campaigns and bought them all expensive armor I stopped playing it for a long time. I log in once a month to check to see if anyone else is on in my guild if not well I just log off, which is the case 98% of the time. So yea people like myself are done with it and are waiting for the second one others are probably playing WOW. Yes there is bonuses for GW 2 mostly having to do with your hall of monuments in Eye of the North, I do plan of getting GW 2 as I'm hear some interesting things about it and of course no subscription fee.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
you can earn bonuses for guildwars 2 by doing some things in guildwars, I went ahead and got it a couple weeks ago and Im glad I did, its a very enjoyable game, but my advice is start with factions or nightfall since prophecies doesnt really have a tutorial and guild wars is rather different from most mmo games

it seems like there is still a good sized player base too since every city I go to has at least a few people running around doing things, and there are allot of cities

and Im planning on buying the fuck out of guild wars 2

So if you want some back story and bonuses I guess play GW if you have the money and free time. The hero/henchmen NPCs are smarter than most people on and if you do plan of playing it do not be an Assassin as they are the most hated class and the world is full of rangers (at least the last I remember it). I recommend picking a class in this order Monk, Warrior, Elementalist, Necromancer, Ritualist.

Dude you haven't played in forever, assassins are not hated, actually, they do most of the elite areas nowadays. The world is not full of rangers, its more full of warriors, but Ritualists seem to be growing rapidly because they are the most versatile. Hero/henchies are still probably smarter, but its all dependent on luck.

Go ahead and buy it if you can spare the money. It's a great game, just don't go expecting a typical MMO (if you played others before) or you might get disappointed. Also, I don't see GW2 coming out for at least another 6 months so don't feel under pressure. And yeah there are some bonuses you can get for GW2 (like weapons, items and titles) if you fill out your hall of monuments in GW but it won't really make much of a difference if you didn't play it so don't buy it because you're thinking you'll be behind others once GW2 comes out (except lore-wise of course).

I voted "wait for 2" if you had to choose between them. But if buying GW1 is no big deal for you, I say get it. It is definitely worth the asking price. If you only want to play to get rewards, don't bother it is unlikely you will be able to honestly.

Really, it just depends on your personal view on it. GW 1 is definitely worth 30 bucks. It isn't dead by any means. It isn't highly populated at the moment either but is by no means ded by any stretch of the word. You have 4 zones you can be in while in a city. American active "1,2,3" and International. If you stay in American active 1,2, and sometimes 3 you will see a lot of people always there. If you do like me and stay in international, people will seem sparse. In the international zones i see 1-5 people when I enter a city, which I prefer as most of my guild stays in international so odds are my guild is one of those people. It also keeps the whole "chosen one" mentality alive and kicking. There are a few guilds that do it, it seems.

GW1 is a great buy for 30 bucks for all the expansions. That is 3 campaigns that you will not be able to get through before GW2 comes out. There is a lot of content there. A couple years worth easy. This is also a good way to understand the lore being presented in 2. Like, for instance, the way you will view charr as a playable race in two will alter.

If you do decide to get it, shoot me a message and I can get you into my guild that way you come in and have a guild handy.

What I mean is the majority of people doing campaign missions there are lots of rangers and warriors and not a lot of anything else so finding a group will be a long process as opposed to a monk. Also no one needs sins on missions because there really isn't a use for a perma sin in a campaign, in elite missions yes I agree. As for ritualist Signit of Spirits seems to be the norm and it works wonders.

You should play the game so that you can find out if you like the game mechanics and the style of GW. Oh, and one hint: find somebody who already plays it a long time, so that you can get help if you need to find things or finish a story mission or this game will become frustrating.

I had a bit fun with Guild Wars, but it was never something I felt like playing for more than a few days. Have never been a fan of Korean games.

Anyways, if you're looking for an MMORPG Guild Wars isn't what you're after. It's more of a solo game with the option to party with people. The world is instanced for only your group, so you'll only ever see other people while in a city or instanced outpost.

Sorry, I've been out playing Guild Wars.

OT: Depends, does any of this stuff [http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hall_of_Monuments] look interesting to you? If so, Definitely play GW1 first.

But seriously, GW1 is a great game. I strongly recommend playing it, especially if you can find a group of friends [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/members/Guild-Wars] to play with (but where will you find such people? alas... lol).

Except for the Hall of Monuments rewards (linked to previously), and the obvious lore crossovers, there is no direct link between GW1 and GW2, so you can play either first. In addition, the aforementioned rewards are updated live (timetravel paradox!) and GW1 will remain active. This means that if you do decide to wait and play GW2 first, you can always go back and play GW1 and still get all the rewards as you achieve them.

I refer you to Korten12's Info Thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.236131-All-yours-Guild-Wars-2-Information-Topic-New-Interview-with-info-12-01-10-or-01-12-10#8408898], and my own Speculation Thread [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.237257-Guild-Wars-2-The-Speculationing#8478954] for more.

Any MMO is only as fun as the friends you play it with.
I think that says it all.

I've been tempted to play Guild Wars in the past but I have never actually known someone who has played it. I may have to con a friend who recently acquired a PC capable of playing it into starting with me. Fifteen bucks really isn't much to ask when there is no subscription fee. I tried jumping into WoW with the trial, but I found that my character was naked and had no possessions or money. I filed a petition to find out why and have not gotten a response. I'm not about to go and grind my way into gear just to try and reach the current content (I never made it to 80 in the first place!). If the issue is not resolved in some fashion, I won't be subscribing but still want to play an MMO (and I've wrung all the fun out of LOTRO and DDO for any who would suggest these).

Try 'Vindictus' (http://vindictus.nexon.net/) awesome hack and slash MMO that completely blows away the usual free-to-play standards, it has incredible graphics (http://www.pcgamersworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/vindictus-001.jpg) and a pretty good community considering its so new, won quite a few best mmo awards this year. And its COMPLETELY free, no payment whatsoever (not even one to buy the game) + relatively tiny download for most mmo's so well worth a try
