Used to drink like that. Till I realized it was stupid as hell. I once started drinking "man shots" of tequila with my friends. We would fill up 7 oz cups with tequila and down them like regular shots. After that night just the word tequila makes me want to puke. Tone down the drinking. A drink or two here and there and get on with your night. Plus, it's much more fun watching other people make asses of themselves.

OK.

I've just come back from a night out "on the lash" (this means drinking lots of alcohol, foreigners) and I was unable to consume any alcohol without feeling like I was about to puke. I made it to about 3 pints before it was a severe effort to actually drink anything. As I student this worries me as most of my social life revolves around getting "plastered" (inebriated) and I was once able to do 6 pints easily and make my 9am lecture.

I have been in this state ever since I left myself severely worse for wear on new years and ever since I have been unable to stomach alcohol. Do you reckon this is serious? Is it psychological or physical? I want your opinion!
I reckon you should potentially see a doctor, just to confirm that there isn't anything wrong. However, as a student myself, I suggest you don't spend so much of your social life revolving around drinking. Going out with friends is all well and good, but not too often, otherwise you risking your health. I remember when I was a fresher last year I went out pretty damn often. Near the end of the first year I felt pretty damn unhealthy and sick and tired of clubbing. This year, I've not been clubbing much, preferring to either spend time chatting over a few pints with friends down the local, or else we've stayed in and just watched DVDs. It sounds cliche, and stupid coming from another student, but just remember, too much alcohol is bad for you.

Lay off the alcohol for a little while, just sounds like you've hit a wall or something.

I had a similar thing for a couple of years ago. Got hammered like there was no tomorrow and couldn't consume alcohol for half a year afterwards.

You don't have to go that long, I'm sure, but just take a little break before going out and drinking yourself shitfaced. What's the point of that anyway? I drink until I get that warm fuzzy feeling when everything's fun and enjoyable. I [usually] stop before I do something... Stupid.

So your having trouble getting blind drunk and you think thats cause to see a doctor? I say just stay off the drink for awhile and then see if you can stomach it a week or two later.

Sounds like you should just stop drinking.
I'm with Shirley on this one.
I'll add to this. Might be a good time to take the first step on a 12-step program before your liver explodes.

If the question 'Should I see a doctor?' has to be asked, go anyway, just to allay any doubts. It's what they do, after all.

It would probably be a good idea to stop drinking for a while, at least until you know whether there is something up or not. I've never had that problem myself (even after Fresher's week at uni last year), but it's better to err on the side of caution...

Never hurts to wait in a walk in clinic for a while. Say likely nothing serious but do you think there might be something wrong? Bring some alcohol with you though, get drunk with the doctor! It's the only way to be sure.

Edit: Worst case scenario you look like a fool and you realize that you can stomach it.

I considered voting option number three, but since I've still got a pulse, I'd advise you to go to the doctor. I'd love to give you some advice, but I'm not an avid drinker. I'd say I even drink maybe one to five alcoholic beverages on a yearly basis, if it even is that many.

Yes I know, that's amazingly low for a man. Then again, I never was a big beer lover, which doesn't mean I don't like going out.

I don't get why people think drinking is such an important thing. I'm 18 and I don't drink - I never get any repercussions from it.

If you can't seem to handle alcohol anymore, don't, its probably your body trying to tell you something. You can still be social with a lemonade in your hand.

Going to see a doctor might not be too bad an idea as well, though.

Someone call for The Doctor?!

OT: I am in this current state after doing exactly as you describe. I can't explain it

Well, I guess it doesn't anymore...

What do you want us to say? Go to the doctor to make sure you can go back to getting drunk every night?

Some people are unable to handle alcohol as well as others-and it may change as you age. If you have no other symptoms, I don't think it's necessary to see a doctor. If you really do need to drink to have a good time, I suppose you could go in anyway, but I doubt that you'll get a lot of support for drinking 6 pints a night.

I used to drink like a madman (developed into full on alcoholism) - as in my usual consumption when I *wasn't* going out was a bottle of red wine and a half-bottle of sambucca; or an entire bottle of whiskey. 1st year of uni and everything - led to me dropping out.,

These days, after stopping drinking for a year or two, a couple of pints manages to get me drunk (working on it - it's embarrassing now I'm a student again). I physically can't drink more than 4 pints, even on an all-nighter.

Can still drink spirits though, which in all honestly I prefer when clubbing (as a couple of pints is sufficient when sitting in the pub with mates). However I don't go out often, mainly due to uni work building up and a general dislike of Birmingham nightlife (I miss Nottingham and the Goth club in Southampton).

Either just accept that you're going to drink less (getting hammered is not necessary - speaking as someone who used to do it often, it's bloody stupid really). If you see a Doctor they're just going to tell you to lay off the booze anyway. All that's probably happened is you damaged your body a little drinking so much at new year, and you psychologically/physiologically can't handle as much booze any more - it's not life-threatening (as you'd know by now if it was proper poisoning or anything) it'll just mean you live a little healthier!

I thought I had that problem as I hadnt drank for a while and the last few times I had been out I could only have a few drinks and then felt sick, but i went out on saturday night for my friends farewell party in the city and I got totally wasted, but not sick (I must of had about 30 standard drinks) I woke up the next morning not feeling great, but not too bad considering

Anyway back to you, yeah I would just lay off for a 2 or 3 weeks then go have a big night and see how it goes, if you feel bad again then I would suggest see a doctor.
