Why not? It's cool and interesting. People who say it's lame are just pop culture obsessed and overall twats.
Yes sorry, graph paper is most handy. The only scratch paper or paper of any kind I usually bring to a session is a big pad of graph paper. So I forgot to make the distinction. The Shade said:If he's DMing, don't forget the graph paper!Slycne said:If your worried about cost of entry you can always use one of the many sets of rules available online. http://www.d20srd.org/index.htm is the 3.5 Dungeons and Dragons rule set available under an open license from Wizards of the Coast. A few dollars of dice(you can always use a dice rolling program too), some paper, some pencils and a few friends is all you will need.
If you're anything like me, you'll need a shitload of graph paper...
yeah but the thing about D&D from what i gather is to make your own adventure in your own world not use someone elses pre-existing lore and such but never mind.Keshie said:I always found D&D/AD&D to be simplistic, infantile rubbish.
There are other fantasy roleplaying games with better systems, cultures and scenarios.
I prefer Runequest, but you should have a look at Ars Magica and Rolemaster, or try historical/fantasy games like Pendragon and Bushido.
Even Middle Earth Roleplaying (MERP) was better than D&D.
Anyway just google these.
saying i have an over active imagination is an understatementso im pretty much covered thereSmilingKitsune said:I played a few years ago, I thought it was fun. If you have a good group it can be great, you just need an active imagination.
I use the ol' wipable battlemats with 1" squares on em. Also, do try D&D, it is good fun. Though you will need somewhat sensible people and a good DM. The rules can get a bit... interesting at times, but this was never really an issue with me (looks at man who has played since first edition who also happens to be his father). Yeah, I've been kinda playing D&D since I was about eight. Also give the star wars D20 a try and dark heresey ( 40K roleplay), but I really enjoy that because I'm sorta fasinated by the bizzarre nature of the imperium and the inquisition and so on. So I guess my final statement is yes, do so very much. Then it's both good and bad that you're DMing.w-Jinksy said:saying i have an over active imagination is an understatementso im pretty much covered thereSmilingKitsune said:I played a few years ago, I thought it was fun. This and let me add that you should also check into any local hobby shop to see if they have weekly campaigns going. People is what makes it good or bad. If you can find a good dedicated group it is well worth the investment. Just make sure you have the group before investing into it.Beltom1066 said:If you have a good group of friends who can play it with you on a regular basis and you are able to come up with fun and interesting dungeons then go for it. If not than don't, otherwise you end up spending loads on the rulebooks and never using them, like me.
Then go for it, if you have a good DM, D&D can be awesome.w-Jinksy said:saying i have an over active imagination is an understatementso im pretty much covered thereSmilingKitsune said:I played a few years ago, I thought it was fun. what is this mutants and master minds game?Pezzer said:Yes, It's BRILLiant, with the capital BRILL. If you find it to tedious and time-consuming (as we did with 6 players) switch over to Mutants & masterminds, the systems much more simple.
Okay since you wont stop harassing me till i come up with an answer of some sorts here it goes...The Shade said:Well if you're gonna shoot down the idea, you could at least provide some reasoning. so you would not have fun and do something you would like to do because of what your peers would think?GodsOneMistake said:Okay since you wont stop harassing me till i come up with an answer of some sorts here it goes...The Shade said:Well if you're gonna shoot down the idea, you could at least provide some reasoning. I would never play D&D myself, because I couldn't really find a way to explain that to any of my friends. "Hey guys wanna play Dungeons and Dragons with me" How the hell does that sound to people who's only experience with the game or even the title, is from T.V making fun of the players at a constant basis. I myself am ignorant of the game because I do my best to stay away from those levels of nerdum, i'm sure it's a fine game, but like I said I wont bother playing or affiliate myself with it
Oh jesus christ everyone stop fucking quoting me. i do enough shit that I enjoy but, i'd rather not have the majority of my buddies knowing i do. Such as MArtial arts, everyone found out and wont leave me the fuck alone about it. My opinions are from experience. And don't judge me from a few lines of textw-Jinksy said:so you would not have fun and do something you would like to do because of what your peers would think?GodsOneMistake said:Okay since you wont stop harassing me till i come up with an answer of some sorts here it goes...The Shade said:Well if you're gonna shoot down the idea, you could at least provide some reasoning. thats a bit sad and very shallow
^Also, that.RebootBlue said:You just need to be good at describing things, and have an amazing imagination. The best part of being a player is doing what your DM doesn't expect.
