I have to write a final argument for a debate tomorrow in class. I was thinking about writing it but then I assumed I could just wing it. What should I do? What would you do in my situation?
BTW: The grade I get for this accounts for 20% of my grade.

What's the argument in response to?

If you think you can, go for it. It's a gamble, but it can be done.
On the flip side, it's generally best to air on the side of safety to keep from looking like a fool.

Your call.

is this specifically a debate class or what? I had to wing a debate on immigration and came out looking fine (best in my group). If it's debate class study.

Might be good to actually have an argument put together-- thats kind of the point of a debate class, not to see who can come up with the best bullshit on the spot.

If you think you can win, then study
If you know you can win, wing it.

Response #2: Studying a little cannae hurt.

Study. There's no real reason not to - if you can do well enough by winging it, you'll do even better by studying. If you can't do well enough, then you should still be able to do somewhat better with studying.

I think you should write it to get a solid idea of how you want your thoughts to flow, then disregard the words and follow the spirit.

Is it a large part of your grade? How are you doing in the class?

Depending on your answers to the first two questions, ask yourself is it even worth your time to study? Good Luck.

Why would you be against nuclear power? You know it's tons more efficient and safer than it used to be? Nuclear energy is the future.

Regardless of how well you know your material, you're going to perform better in the debate if you do some preparation.

Prepare for it. If that means studying, then study. You don't want to fail just because you decided to be lazy. Also, since it's an argument, don't forget to talk about points why people may be for nuclear power and say how that part of the argument is flawed.

I would think Three Mile Island would be a better example. Chernobyl was primarily a product of an idiotic government.

Anyway, OT

If it's for an English class (Hadn't noticed that with the original response) definitely write it, you're probably expected to hand something in as well as the debate. At least that's been my experience.

The amount of time it takes for you to make this thread, and then read people's posts, and then reply to them, could all have been spent studying. Or sleeping.

Then again, I live to procrastinate (and play SC2), so...power to Escapists?

I think studying makes you feel better about the test more then anything. It's a mental thing. Yes, you absorb more information, but still not enough to be some kind of expert. Go over the material, and you won't stress out about it as much either.
