Poll: should I watch thor, ironman etc before avengers

You might be able to get away with seeing the Avengers before watching the other movies but I would suggest watching them before hand anyways. They're pretty good movies and that way you will have a little insight on the characters before seeing the Avengers.
Yes so that you get a better understanding about the characters (what motiviate them to fight for justice etc) and who know what kind of references will they will bring up in the Averger movie referring back to the perivous films.
Yeah, you definitely should. Ironman movie is the jewel in avengers crown - definitely the best movie. Thor was also good, Ironman 2 was bit worse but still good (for me, it's flaws are compensated by the awesomeness of Stark himself), and Hulk was okay, but it had too much of the comic book stupidity. I didn't watch Captain America - yet.
Having not seen Avengers, I don't know for sure. However, I think that you should on the safe side, just because they're brilliant movies and also so that you're on the same page... I'm not sure that seeing as how they made those three films they'd take the trouble to spend much time on exposition.
Yeah man, if only for the fact that they're enjoyable films. Plus, you understand the characters better if you know their back-stories. Thor's good. Love that film
I'm sure you'll be fine if you don't. But still, they're all pretty good and probably provide a lot of backstory, so they're worth it.
Yes, you should. Not for the sake of understanding continuity, but because all those movies are awesome!
I'm going with the general consensus here. Watch them. Or at least watch a couple of them. The only one I haven't seen is The Incredible Hulk. But Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, and even Iron Man 2 were all great films. Iron Man was probably the strongest movie in all respects while Iron Man 2 may have been the weakest, but they were all great and entertaining films. So, watch them all, not just because they will fill in the back-story, but because you enjoy good superhero movies.

I said yes. If Marvel studios is doing things right then The Avengers will start right up with little-to-no origin stories or sub-plots. I would watch the Iron Man movies and, Captain America/ Thor just to get their stories down. The later are also arguably better than the two Iron Man films and worth watching anyway. Not that Iron Man and 2 aren't worth watching but they are both excellent films (Cap and Thor I mean)
I highly recommend watching the 5 movies leading up to Avengers. Because they're great movies and there was something in Captain America that wasn't explained in that movie, because it was explained in Thor.
Based on the trailers for Avengers I'd say that:
Watching Thor including the postcredit scene will more or less introduce quite a bit of useful background. Including stuff on the villain.
Captain America expands on the post credit scene of Thor a bit (as I'm led to believe the glowy bit is the same in both) but you may be able to skip it if like... you run out of time getting a chance to watch them somehow. (But honestly it's worth a watch)
Iron Man 2 has a scene discussing what the "Avenger Initiative" is, but ultimately you probably can figure that out when the movie arrives. It does introduce a character that will be on the team who isn't Iron Man though.
Other than that, All of them more or less introduce the characters and have information (such as how a WW2 hero is a modern day hero) that they'll gloss over because they don't have time to repeat it all. With the Hulk being the only one I think you can probably skip. (Though, it's probably my second favorite behind Captain America personally so I say watch them all.)

Here's a better question: if you want to see The Avengers, why wouldn't you see the pre-films? If you don't like them, then you won't like the Avengers. But if you are the kind of guy who wants to watch a superhero team-up movie, then you have no excuse for not having already seen them.

I'd say Captain Ameria should go after Thor, simply because it helps explaint the prescence of Norse gods. But then Captain America also helps contribute to Iron Man and the Hulk, with Tony's father and the super-soldier serums respectively. I love interconnectedness.Bucht said:
