Basically no, when the kids are little they have little choice in the matter. But once they are old enough to start questioning things they have to choose their own way.

The ultimate expression of why probably comes about in arranged/forced marriage, what kind of a parent would do that to their children?

well, yeah to a degree. they should be able to teach them what they believe and make them go to church etc.
i mean, if we stop religious people from teaching their kids about their faith then we'd have to stop atheist parents teaching their kids about evolution and how god doesn't exist.

No, They shouldn't force anything on their kids. They may suggest to their kids to try out their religion but not force on them

My understanding is that from their birth until the time they're adult, my children's religious education will be my responsibility.

All I can pray thereafter is that it sticks.

Feel free to flame liberally until evenly crispy and tasting slightly of gasoline

i was watching 'the root of all evil: the god delusion' yesterday. it's a documentary by richard dawkins if you didn't know. look it up, it's on google video. he talks about why it is wrong to impose religion on children. his argument is that, everybody excepts that children are too young to understands politics. you wouldn't call a child left or right wing just because it's parents are one or the other. how can children understand religion and be called christian, jewish or muslim etc when they have no real concept of the religion itself?

Yes/no, I don't agree with indoctrination, but it's not the kind of law you can enforce. Kids are probably gonna be like their parents regardless.

No. Never.
They should be given a pamphlet detailing different beliefs at 15.
That's when they're wont to choose life philosophies.
But..Forcing it on them during childhood? That is sick.

Well..first off...why with all the number jumping around? second I have to say both yes and no. I'm a Christan, but I respect other people view, as a christian should be...not the crazy wackos like in the movies where the people would kill if they talk bad about god. If you don't believe in it , fine w/e just don't talk about it in front of me. But anyways, if a kid wants to learn or not learn about something like religion, then why force it? You can take a horse to the water, but can't make him drink it.

Well if they're in their house they're the boss. But lost of parents (not only Christians) push it with the 'you're not my kid if you're gay/Muslim/atheist'.

If the kid is younger than 12 then yeah, because if they say "I don't wanna go to church" its just that they want to play outside. When they get older they might see that the religion may or may not be their answer.

Yes/no: It's easy to say that those people that are wrong (like Christian Scientists or Mormons) shouldn't be able to force teachings on their kids, but as for the rest of us, of course we can because we have a better understanding of the world than our children. This is a hypocritical but probably necessary feature of liberal politics.

Yes
Kids need to at least start with a religion, and you certainly can't choose your own until you get older and can judge things correctly. So your parents religion should be your start-off, then you can change later when you have a different perspective, like choosing your major in college.
