See, I know a lot of people who play Multiplayer(and zombies if treyarch) to death, but don't even touch the campaign. whats the point of making a campaign if a good percentage of your fanbase doesn't even play it. plus, let's be honest, COD(post 4) is not known and critically acclaimed for it's singleplayer. Lastly, with less time and resources on singleplayer, they can spend more time balancing and adding more maps on multiplayer(and zombies if treyarch).

No. If they wanted to I could see a profit on multiplayer-exclusive disks, but I dont think that taking out single player would go over well.

Prior to playing Black Ops on multiplayer, I found the campaigns in the CoD games to be easily the best part. And if you go through and actually play the campaign in Black Ops, which I have a feeling you didn't, you will see just how excellently made it was.

If you ask me, they should take a few hints from Halo, and allow co-op into their campaign. Just the same, allow more customization into the campaign mode as well, also like Halo.

Furthermore, I believe that they should in fact devote a lot more time into optimizing the single player experience of the CoD series, rather than focusing it on what is only really a -decent- multiplayer experience. Sure, the multiplayer is fun, but it is quickly ruined once Killstreak rewards, easily the dumbest possible thing they've put into the game, come into play. Not to mention other utterly ridiculous aspects of multiplayer... for instance, the Famas having almost zero recoil when spraying, the Ak74u being stupidly accurate and unbalanced, and don't even get me started on the damn knife.

My personal thought is that they should charge $15 for the singleplayer (is it really worth any more?) and have the multiplayer under a subscription fee. I'm never going to shell out $60 for such a short singleplayer component (since I don't touch the multiplayer side of things) and waiting four years for it to drop in price (seriously, COD4 is still at $30!) is just unacceptable. So this pricing method seems to provide a reasonable alternative.
But then, that's just me.

Actually I did beat the campaign in black ops and I'm pretty sure they allowed co-op in COD:WAW but I think treyarch and infinity ward should focus on it's main sellers. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the singleplayer but the truth is, many people don't play it. I heard one kid call singleplayer "for losers and geeks."

And with more time spent on multiplayer, those things could have been balanced. But I actually think the best course of action is to not release the games annually and maybe release them biannually or something but we both know Activision will never go for that.

No. There is always going to people liking the single player, and it adds another selling point, though not as big as multi for most people. Also, I think it would be horrible to encourage a game to go down this path, as it could influence other developers. I don't want one of the biggest games of all time, whether you like it or not, to remove single player due to the influence CoD has on the market.

Then I'd have absolutely no reason to play it.

The single player is the only reason I play (that, and the rather good spec-ops missions in MW2, the best part of that game)

I don't think a company is going to get rid of singleplayer just because COD did it, and even if they did, it probably wasn't going to be that good anyway or just be a COD ripoff.

I was tempted to vote Yes, because I'm not a fan of CoD and I think it's fair to say that the series is very multiplayer oriented, but I assume there are people who enjoy it for the single player and I remember how irritating it was in the late 90s when series like Quake and Unreal completely embraced multiplayer at the expense of single. So no.

Fine by me. CoD 4's campaign was excellent, but I haven't even played through the Blops campaign. It gets really boring. It would be cool if they devoted more time into multiplayer. Release some more maps instead of a campaign. Tell the story through the multiplayer. Battlefield 2 did this. I'm sure there are many innovative ways this could be done.

No. If anything, they need to stop releasing online multiplayer and make a decent campaign for once. CoD 4's was great, still nothing compared to 2's, but then the campaigns became extra features. Which should be fixed.

Uhhhh, honestly that'd be a terrible idea. I think Black Ops campaign is actually the best CoD campaign yet...They seem to be getting better, and just because a lot of people only like multiplayer doesn't mean they are going to or should cut out campaign, there are still a lot of people who like the single player more than the multiplayer.

The only problem with that is the COD franchise would make a lot less money since it's pretty much built around multiplayer.

Are you sure we're still talking about COD because I met very few people who actually liked the singleplayer as much, fewer more then the multiplayer.

Nope. The single player is actually a big draw for some people.

What will be interesting will be to watch if they introduce a subscription fee. Since around 60% of xbox live members online at any given time are playing a Call of Duty game - it seems like a deal they can't afford to miss.

In short they're in the money!

This is the silliest argument in all of Sillisville, United Silliness of America.

By this argument, my next statements are correct:
"I played Counter-strike (or Team Fortress 2). Why does Valve continue to pour resources into their campaign?"

"I only play Madden 2011 franchise, why even bother adding superstar mode when no one ever wants to play it?"

"Mercenaries II wasn't critically acclaimed, I don't know why they even bother making games that are not critically acclaimed."

"Some people don't play the campaign, therefore we should get rid of it? It's not the 'Citizen Kane' of gaming, therefore we should get rid of it?"

I highly enjoyed the campaign and would be hard pressed to purchase CoD if it was multi-player only. Just because you don't know anyone who enjoys it doesn't mean they don't exist.
