Oh wow. Everyone's getting word of this video. But yeah, that was gonna be my next suggestion to the staff. Guys, if you're reading this, hopefully you've watched that video, and hopefully you'll boycott E3 when summer rolls around.

Absolutely,

It is in the interests of everyone who enjoys the Escapist's content to view these threads and post support. Come on people, let's bring this to their attention and encourage them to take a stand against the ESA's support of SOPA.

Vote and post!

I don't think 'should' is the best word, though I do think that the idea in that video is nothing short of awesome.

Now if only there was a more direct way to contact the staff of The Escapist to tell them what you think of the idea. Sadly, that simply does not exist. Especially not right here or anything [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/]

Edit: A thought: seriously, take a little bit of pride in your post and, you know, right more than one word. It looks bad to the overall message.

I'm still pro-SOPA here, so I'm going to have to say no. Sure, it's a drastic thing to do, but then I think drastic measures are needed to stop piracy. And thus far I don't have any issues with the side that the ESA is lobbying, nor do I think that this extortion of them is justified.
Moreover, as far as this Extra Credits thing is concerned, they themselves haven't given any arguments for their opposition. No doubt they'll discuss that in episode 24b, but until then all they've done is announce that opposition.
That said, I can't say that I'm not moved by how far some people will go to fight for what they believe in, despite that not being my own and personal belief.

I don't know... One thing I like to use the Escapist for is getting gaming news and that tends to be an issue if they avoid one of the biggest events of the year for gaming news.

A better thing to do would be to interview and ask questions about SOPA/PIPA to the people involved rather than boycotting the whole thing. I know if the Escapist doesn't cover it I'll get the news about from elsewhere then.

well, what's your arguments for your support of it?

you obviously want some kind of solution to the problem of piracy, but why is it that you support THIS particular "solution"? say as opposed to any other possible way of dealing with piracy.

I think the decision should be solely theirs. It's very easy for us to ask them to abstain from an event that brings them publicity and money.

Here's the thing, though: SOPA will not stop piracy. Torrents will still exist and will still be accessible, they'll just be hosted entirely on non-US web sites and servers. Sites as public as thepiratebay will probably become harder to find, but they'll be there for those who look.

All it will do is stop copyrighted content from being hosted on things like Facebook and YouTube, which aren't even the main sources of piracy. It's the torrents that are the problem. Piracy will still go on, and any web show or video that thrives on freely available information and graphics will suffer. SOPA makes the sites hosting the content legally responsible for any copyright infringements, meaning sites like YouTube and Facebook where people upload things will have to severely clamp down on any and all content that has ANY copyrighted material. G-mod videos, Let's Plays, memes, picture videos, remixes, Youtube Poop, hell even things as harmless as this [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzAEgL026a4] would be taken down to avoid the swing of the copyright hammer. You won't be able to upload a recording from a concert from your smartphone to Facebook. You won't be able to make anymore videos with the Skyrim [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9eGtyqz4gY] Song. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ip7QZPw04Ks]

THAT is why so many are opposed to SOPA. It's so vague, YouTube, Facebook and the like will have to react drastically just to survive. Either that, or they'll just give up on providing service to the US altogether. Too many violations would effectively end them. Remaining in such a risky place would be a horrendous business decision.

Escapist please do not cover E-3 until ESA removes their support of SOPA and PIPA.

Although I don't want them to cover it, I don't want not covering it to have any major negative effects for the Escapist. But only time will tell for now.

I say yes, I could live without E3 for at least a year. If that is what it takes, then so be it.

They should not because the more sites that boycot E3 the better so that the ESA will get the message.

Without a doubt.

Alexander Macris, if you happen to come across this post (which is doubtful), keep this in mind. Send no Themis Media staff of any kind to E3. Offer no coverage. No streams of press conferences. No articles. Not even a single tweet.

This doesn't have to end there. As developers start to pull out, if they pull out, reach out to them. Give in-depth exclusives and first looks at what they were going to exhibit at the show. Contact other gamig news outlets and encourage them to do the same. Make it so that they don't lose any coverage from now attending the convention. Help do your part to show that not only does the ESA not speak for the industry, but if push comes to shove the industry doesn't need the ESA.

I think they should cover it, but in every single post about it put a mini rant complaining about SOPA and ESA's support of it. Really bash everyone over the head with that point.

Also, it would be nice for an escapist staff member to comment here - even if it's just to say 'we kinda need the revenue and as a gaming news site can't ignore the biggest event in gaming news, sorry folks. Hey, at least we got that little stop censorship bar over our logo right now, eh guys?'

The Escapist, please don't cover that event. I know E3 is big, and in my wildest dreams I'd like to go there, but the support they are taking I don't agree with the support they are taking.
I will not read any story, article, watch any video, nothing related to E3 this year.

It will be a sad season without it, but it has to be done. I've read Nineteen eighty four, and I don't want to go anywhere near close to that.

Absolutely.

I think the ESA's support of SoPA is atrocious and this, were it to gain ground (and I can see that happening) would be a rather elegant solution.

A protest doesn't gain ground until the big boys start pulling it along. Set an example. Be the voice of the gaming nation we all say we are.
