...Not really. Fallout owes too much to the whole Popular Mechanics/"World of Tomorrow"/Cold War Paranoia/Happy 50s propaganda imagery and sense of setting that's rather uniquely American; placing the old props in a foreign setting would just feel out of place, and not in a good way.

I'd be all for making a post-apocalyptic game set somewhere other than America, and maybe even having Bethesda do it and tying it into the Fallout universe, but it wouldn't, and shouldn't, be Fallout. It should try to be its own thing.

Yeah, that's be awesome. As another poster said, what makes Fallout Fallout is it's funny take on cold war propaganda and xenophobic culture of the times, which makes me think that, if there was anywhere that could replicate that sort of feel, it'd be 1950s England.

I'd rather see a prequel where you play a character who was someone from one of the first vaults to open. The start of the game could be you as as kid and your parents rush to get to a vault, but perhaps there's a mix up or they can't fit everyone so you're the only who gets to go in. That's a pretty brutal start.

It's be only a couple of decades since the war so some cities wouldn't be as desolated but at the same time society wouldn't have even started to rebuild yet, there'd be raiders and all sorts of early mutants breeds that might have evenutally died out by Fallout 1-3. You could help found early settlements or create raider gangs, perhaps their might be a few working vehicles. Some more survival options would be neat too.

There are no good reasons to take the game out of the US, since everything iconic about the series is Americana, and weapons made exclusively for the Americans. (Like power armor) Additionally, there are hordes of places left to cover that would make for interesting areas, like the Commonwealth. Somehow they've continued to advance technologically, making synthetic humanoids, and likely even crazier weapons. How has the Brotherhood not stepped in? The actual Brotherhood btw, not the 'outcast' BoS from FO3. If that sentence was confusing, look it up, the guys at the Citadel were the actual outcasts, and the 'Outcasts' were the actual Brotherhood.

Hmmm could work but I love the feel of the 50's American culture in the game, itd be interesting to do it with a different cultural perspective of the time

It would be really interesting to see the "opposite" side to the war. The characters would have to almost solely be Chinese though - there wouldn't be many immigrants, unless over the 200 + years some survivors have wandered into the area looking for a nicer/safer region. And what would their "vaults" or whichever be like? Assuming that they had their very own organization like Vault-Tec.
One of the main themes in Fallout is that things that were important before the war (such as international relations and allegiances simply don't matter any more. That would mean it would be basically the same as one set in the US but with more mountains and snow.

...and funnier accents.

I'm sick of people saying what is and what isn't Fallout in this thread. A game whose events occur in the Fallout universe is Fallout. Ironically now I hate myself.

Just take a picture of Moss Side in Manchester or Toxteth in Liverpool and create the scene in game format. Those places already look like a nuked wasteland.

We even have creatures lined up. The ever increasing in number pregnant teenager, the jobless dole dweller that constantly appear in local pubs trying to sell stolen mobile phones and the fearsome, even more terrifying than a deathclaw .... "THE CHAV".

So strap on your Power Armour and grab your shotgun and go forth my friends, go forth and cleanse the streets of the UK from these parasites.

Who needs Vault-Tec? We all have one of those friends that can't get a date for toffee. A friend so lonely his only lover in 30 years has been Inflatable Irene he keeps under his bed, a friend so ugly even nuclear war would shudder at the mere sight of him and avoid like the plague. Thats the house we would all go to.

Thats going off the assumption that a nuclear warhead doesn't just take one look at half the towns in the UK and think "christ, am I too late? Has someone already bombed the crap out of this cesspit" and carry on to land in France.

Plus guns aren't as readily available in the UK but we do have an abundance of corner shops, pubs and take aways. So a more likely scenario would be a British version of a Super Mutant (or Susan Boyle) attacking you and you standing on a Nissan Micra throwing Mars Bars, Peanuts and cold Kebab in it's general direction until it either loses interest in you and starts devouring the bar snacks or a passing Chav comes along and rips it apart to get to the free Kebab.

Don't get me wrong I do love my country (but only during football season, not much else going on the rest of the time) but Fallout in the UK would suck big hairy monkey balls.

I think in Fallout 2, it's mentioned that while the US suffered a ton of damage from the bombs, China was actually completely destroyed.

I really don't see how it would work so much of the game is tied to 50's american if you take all that out along with all the factions since their all US based and didn't branch out your left with a game that would feel nothing like fallout so you'd end up with the same mechanics but really a totally different game which doesn't have what makes fallout uniqe thus killing the series.

I'd like to see Vancouver, BC done (but maybe that's only because I'm from Vancouver). It's a big city, with plenty of suburbs, so... yeah. Besides, in the Fallout universe, the US annexed Canada only a few years before the Great War came to an end, so I guess technically it WOULD be in Canada.

It should stay in America that?s part of the game the DLC's like Point lookout and The pitt showed us that you can have different themes for different places
I guess you could have parts of Mexico and Canada but keep it in America mainly that?s part of the game
(Unless of course there is a fallout game set in Australia)

They annexed Canada before the Great War, in January, 2076. The Great War only lasted two hours.

I think what you meant to say was "the US annexed Canada only a few years before the Great War began."

No, Fallout should stay in the states, but should expand away from the NCR like Fallout 3 did.

I think it would change a lot, but I would like it to be in China so we could see the war from a Chinese point of view, or indeed from the perspective of any other nation.

There are several hints across the games that one side fired first (and iirc it was America). Not likely to be much of China left.

I would be interested but two major problems, Vault-Tec was (unless I'm mistaken) a US company with ties to it's government, there'd be no vaults. Not a major problem necessarily but it's part of the series.
More importantly the theme is very American centric, the theme as portrayed of a 50's States with a difference wouldn't happily extend elsewhere, cultures were still very localised then, the States didn't have as much influence on us as it does now so it would be totally different, 50's Britain wasn't a place of hope and aspiration.

Anyway, I want to see the rest of the world at some point but I'm more interested in seeing the Commonwealth for now and maybe hearing more about the east and west coasts, after all we have a lot of info on them now, t'would be nice to see what's been going on with all these major changes happening.

Obsidian, they're the only current developer capable of making a good Western RPG.
Fixed, .......... Nah I'm just joking, (I hope).

OT: As long as they bring back the Shishkebab and Nuka Grenades as craftable weapons, I'm happy. Also I want a unique Plasma Defender, Caster, or Laser RCW.

Although according to Fallout wiki:

A prequel to the Fallout series, Fallout: Resource Wars, set in a collapsing Europe (during the European Commonwealth's invasion of the Middle East), is one of the games that J.E. Sawyer would like to make if he could do any game, regardless of money and development time.
