If we call the moon "THE Moon", and our sun "THE Sun". Doesn't that just go to show how egocentric we are as a species because we're basically giving the giant proverbial finger to the galaxy saying "Our universe is better than yours". If so I think we're kinda screwed when aliens visit like in Mass Effect accept we don't actually win of escape that war in the beginning.

The Sun is a star. The Moon is a satellite. No one else would have any reason to call their stars or satellites Moon or Sun.

This, plus the fact that every other planet's moon is referenced by a name such as Phobos, Deimos, IO, Ganymede etc, but the moon is almost always just called 'the Moon'.

As The-Bad-Blooded mentioned, it does have a name but it simply isn't used all that much.

Luna isn't the Moon's name, though. The Moon is.

And yet it goes on for five pages. Oh, the hilarity.
Mainly because that poster was wrong and later admitted to trolling "for the lulz".
That... isn't trolling. At all. Moon/Luna Sol/Sun are names for both of them. Official names aer obviously Moon and Sun, but... it wasn't completely wrong. I don't really get it.

That is just hilarious bullshit logic there. Any alien species that encounters us won't understand our language, so they won't understand the terms "moon" and "sun" other than the fact that we've named our Kroshlar and Zeepta "Moon" and "Sun" respectively.

See what I did there? If you understood that language, you'd understand that they named EVERY moon and sun after their world leaders, a much more egocentric thing to do.

All joking aside, do you see my point? How do we know we aren't incredibly humble compared to other intelligent life forms in the galaxy?

To us they have meaning, but to an alien species, they're nothing but unintelligible words.

Yes, our natural satellite does have name already, its 'Moon'. Just like Jupiters satellites are named Io, Europa, Ganymede and so on.
How could you leave out Callisto? Not cool...

Well, in the context of the thread, Luna is not the correct answer. Sure, you COULD call it Luna, but it's name (as defined by NASA and the IAU) is the Moon.

Also: I vote we rename the Sun and the Moon to Kroshlar and Zeepta.

Luna and Sol are as viable as The Moon and The Sun, which are just translations. Those are their names, once people started figuring out that there are others they just called objects after them. That is why there are no The Moons and The Suns.

But hey, who cares that we have at least four other moons, and one with an actual name. Right?

Really, so an alien civilization would have technology to travel millions of lightyears and survive but they would be too imcompentent to learn one of our planet's if not all languages.

And stop being a dumb troll snow rainbow. No one in everyday life uses those terms.
Completely ignoring my point, AND calling someone who has done literally nothing a dumb troll. You're on a roll.

Pff, no. The guy is just looking in a mirror and thought he saw you for some Tnaplala unknown reason.

People will look back on this day in a few hundreds years and build statues of you, the great prophet Alex, seer of the Netoople-peep-klap coming.
