Yeah... there we go, really :p

Granted, the Latin terms mean 'moon' and 'sun' but they're still names.
I believe Earth is called Sol 3 (3rd planet from the Sun) but we still call it Earth or Holy Terra if you play 40k!

Completely ignoring my point, AND calling someone who has done literally nothing a dumb troll. You're on a roll.
Oh thank god. I thought I missed something really obvious, lol.
Pff, no. The guy is just looking in a mirror and thought he saw you for some Tnaplala unknown reason.

(Tnaplala- God of the Netooplee-peep-klap Empire. I'm totally gonna keep rolling with this.)
People will look back on this day in a few hundreds years and build statues of you, the great prophet Alex, seer of the Netoople-peep-klap coming.
I should start a religion. Has anyone else started a religion based on a science fiction thing? I can't think of any...

And you were probably expecting a scientology joke.

No one uses Sun and Moon? Okay...?

*can't tell if serious*
No, satellite and star to a lesser extent you dumbass. *face palm*
You need to stop insulting him (her?). Now. If you can't speak in a civil manner, don't speak at all. Read the forum rules.

No, the term star sometimes is used interchangeably with the word sun, to a lesser extent that the word moon is used in exchang for satellite.

*confounded at the lack of comprehension*

And shut it zeromachine you have no room to talk, just because you talk in a backhanded manner doesn't make it any better than me being blunt about what I'm thinking.

Um... Moon? Isn't that what it's already named? Luna is just a translation.

Where's my "It has one already" option?

hmm, our moon was named Moon before we discovered any thing else like our moon. we don't have 2 moons, we never did in our written history. if we did, i don't think humans would be alive on earth, and if there was life on earth i have a feeling it would take a very different course throw history(if we still had 2 moons), but for argument if we did, they would both have names. just like our single moon has a name, its name is MOON.

if you feel like this is confusing, we should rename the category of moon, not our moon. its like what if they decided to call planets earth instead of planets. should we stop calling our planet Earth cause they name a category of interstellar bodies that our planet belongs in after our planet.
You forget than language evolves. Sol and Luna just mean sun and moon, respectively. Sun just being that big ball of fire and death we revolve around. Moon is just a planet-like object orbiting another planet-like object(note: not scientific definitions). However, Sol and Luna are ways to tell them apart from other sols and lunas, because Sun and Moon doesn't do it(for some reason you can't hear someone speaking in a capital letter).

Is there a better theory? Only other theories I've heard are creationist ones.
Just because it is the only theory doesn't mean it is true. Just because the theory explains said phenomenon the best, doesn't mean it is true. We can't really conclusively prove that is what happened. Sure there is a nice large amount of evidence that supports the theory, and we are 99% sure that is what happened. However, unless we can get a time machine and watch it happen, it will remain a theory.

Nah. Mass Effect says it's not any good for colonising.
....You can't be seriously using that as an argument.

Umm... It has name, it is Moon... Written in capital M, moon is a piece of rock going around any planet.
Example in Finnish: Kuu = Earth's moon - kuu = any moon.

The thing is that we have driven the name of the object going around a planet from the name of our own moon. Etymology is a wonderful thing isn't it?

Also... Luna...

Um, no. A sun is a star, but the term sun is not interchangeable. There are trillions of stars that aren't suns.

The Moon is named the Moon. Just like this giant clump of earth we live on is called Earth.

For reference (I know, I know, Wikipedia): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_moon#Name_and_etymology

I'm not insulting anyone. Read. The. Rules.

All you're doing is trolling here. You're being an ass, and I'm just calling you out on it.

I have every right to talk. It's you that obviously doesn't understand how this forum works.
Wait, you just called me an ass and a troll but your not insulting anyone? L. O. L. And o by all means talk, it is a forum where every member's thoughts are welcomed no matter how contrived. But don't belittle other people's thoughts and try to act self righteous so you can impress some e-chick.
Selective attention, I see.

Well, you're a massive waste of my time. Farewell. Enjoy your inevitably short stay in the forum.

Why not? Mass Effect seems to be the most knowledgeable game about space. That and Portal 2. (And no I'm not going to say it)

At this point, the thread isn't even worth it. I've tried, you've tried. Every wrong poster proven wrong will claim "lol, i troll u," and nobody bothers to read the thread beyond a single post reaffirming their own ideas.

I realize that it's not correct but go onto yahoo answers and you'll see it that it happens (did so just to check, although that place has a large amount of stupidity.) But ya I said to a lesser extent because it's not a mistake that requently occurs.

And ya obviously, a forum is a place to show that your obviously right about everything. Hence why I recieved a report from Zero and vice versa lol.

Hey, I don't mind you trying to make a point, but instead of making yours known you chose to instead belittle my post. Yes what I said isn't right, but it happens to be the mindset of the general population which is to say in the least not that bright. Damnit I'm such a pessimist v.v
