No, I say they raise the age because I'm not being killed because some dumb fucking 18 year old just felt like drinking at some party. It happens everyday because the US 18 year olds are just dumb and spoiled kids who will do any thing and I mean ANYTHING to support their ego of being cool. (with the exception of the 18 year olds with actual potential and talent)

Excuse me for being harsh, prejudice and needlessly insulting here, but:

This thread has some perfect examples of people never getting invited to parties, people disliking alcohol because of the first option (Or simply because they are huge geeks), and pessimistic nay-sayers that don't have fun in life and then deprive everyone else of theirs.

Sorry to say this, but grow a fucking ballsack people.
I had the same thought.....

From what I understand, a high drinking age encourages dangerous drinking at colleges and universities. Drinking has to be done in secret so it becomes associated with mischief and rebellious attitudes.

From my own experiences at a Canadian University, the fact that most people couldn't get alcohol legally during their first year (since most people were 18 and 19 was required) did not stop them from drinking at all. (This also applies to other drug use, but I'll stay on topic) I drank, my roommate drank. Everyone on the floor drank. The dons on the floors knew we were drinking so it became this ridiculous instance of everyone being in on an illegal activity, but no one saying anything for fear of shattering the peace. I think that if people were allowed to casually drink without fear of reprisal or the benefits of feeling like a badass there wouldn't be as much of a problem.

In Europe, the drinking age is lower. Since young kids are able to drink legally at a younger age, the temptation to binge drink at parties is lower because you don't have to worry about not getting trashed before the cops show up and kick the door down. Also, most alcohol related hospitalizations of college students in the US is due to hard liquor, because it's easier to sneak a single thing of vodka into your dorm than a whole case of beer. This causes kids to get fucked up too quickly and drink way too much without even realizing.

Absolutely not. People are idiotic shit heads, and alchohol just makes it worse. You may think you're responisible, and you may be right, but many are not and would likely start drinking and driving, and even though I love massive amounts of death I don't think others would.

If you really are responsible enough to handle drinking alchohol and not being stupid with it, you should understand what I am trying to say and can handle waiting.

Since you can Vote, Sign a Contract to join the Service, then you should be able to drink.

I'm 20, I've never drank, and I never plan to drink. Good luck with your cirrhosis.

I say yes, I find it so fucked up that a 18 year old deemed responsible and smart enough to be able to go to war and fight for his/her country, but drinking alcohol is apparently abover there heads. So I say that the drinking age should at least be lowered to 18.
Yes, but what about an 18 year old who isn't responsible or smart enough to make good decisions about drinking. Drunk drivers kill enough people every year as it is. Better safe than sorry.

I made a great mini-story and no one cared :(....

Anyways, if it is lower back to normal, it would curb binge drinking since you wouldn't have to worry about being caught. Also, a teen at 18 is more responsible than some adults I know (I'm 19 btw).

I voted maybe, as it can be a good idea if, oh, I dunno, the parents stepped in early on and taught them that drinking responsibly is a good idea and driving while intoxicated is a bad one. However, given what I've seen of parents and their insistence on blaming everything but themselves or their hellspawn when said spawn does something horrible, it probably won't happen in the U.S. during my lifetime, if ever.

The military is another case. If you expect someone to voluntarily (or otherwise should the draft be reinstated) lay down their life for the country and your freedom, they should be allowed to drink. I've heard people say that I am giving special treatment to servicemen because of these thoughts, which is probably true, but a lot of these are the same people who also mention if they covered themselves in body glitter and introduced themselves as Edward, then they'd score with any girl they want. Bleh.

Sorry for rambling like this.
