No, it's enough as is, we need parents to step in and decide what's right and wrong for their children, it's not the ESRB's job to raise the children, but to warn parents of the content. If parents would take the ten seconds it takes to read the back of the game box, then they could know what content the children would be playing.

Also, I wish stores would stop "enforcing" the ratings. There is a reason that they are not law.
You must not be old enough to buy "M" rated games then. I also think you don't understand how incredible it is that there isn't a law. The reason why there isn't a law is because stores and game companies alike are doing their best to enforce these ratings. If stores weren't stopping kids from buying Manhunt, Jack Thompson might have been successful in passing a law, then you would really be screwed. "M" rated games would be in a separate room of the store or heck even in a separate store.

I think it is great when I go into a Gamestop or even Best Buy and the clerk says to an adult "Do you realize you are purchasing a game that is rated "M" and may contain graphical sexuality and/or violence?" I have seen adults put the game down and not buy it. Granted I have also seen idiot Mom's buying little Johnny GTA3 because his friend said it was 'cool' and completely ignoring what the clerk was saying...

I don't think there needs to be another rating between T and M. I think the stigma behind the AO rating needs to go away.
I don't think teens can't have M rated games because teens that get video game are to dorky to do any thing, like me. The sex just passes by them not bothering them, or me, and there are smart enough to know not to commit violence, like me.

Kids younger than 10, however, should never even see this content because they are much more impressionable. They will think its OK to do the stuff they see of hear in M rated games. It will also make them meaner and likely less intelligent if they often play it. They can also get addicted to games, and it will stick to them until adulthood.

Kids 10+ should be playing teen rated games, not including the one mentioned in this topic that should be rated M, because they have content that is interesting, not too explicate, and fun.

Now I can see why you don't like games with bad content because it is inappropriate, but not letting things being inappropriate is like saying you don't have the right to curse because you don't like it. That would be unfair to tell someone what they can or can't say, but if you say a curse infront of a child that it is a bad thing to do because they would copy it and use it frequently.

My point is, it not bad to be inappropriate, or too play violent video games, but it not right to do it with some one who will be badly affected by it. Lastly, if you don't like something in a video game, or what some one said, then just don't buy the game or don't bother the person who said the thing you did not like.

As I understand, like movie ratings, there are spectrums to each rating. Though I got this from Wikipedia so don't take my word on it.

Your only saying that because your obviously under 17, it's good that stores enforce the ratings, children shouldnt be playing games that are unfit for them. Now i'm not saying that you shouldn't play M games, but it's good that they have a policy that they follow.

Same here, High Fives all around.

And OP, Fallout 3? I don't think that having somebody have all their limbs and their head seperated from their torso is something that should be in a T rated game.

Fallout 3? Dude that game has a perk that lets you literally blow people to nothing but organs, eyeballs, and a pile of blood. And you decapitate heads on a regular basis. Plus the game drops the F bomb (no pun intended) like its nobodys business. Halo 3 on the other hand, I have no idea why it's rated M.

OT: No not really. People too young for T games are playing M games when you think about it. So definitely no. Now excuse me while I go click some more of those fun polly buttons you put up.

I've noticed a lot of games that were T, but were pushing an M rating(Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, inFamous). And some M games that were more T rated (Assassin's Creed, Fallout 3... kinda). Do you think there should be a middle ground between the two?
Fallout 3, really? Bloody Mess perk anyone. Anyway OT: yes there should be but there won't. If they move M to something like 18 or 19 and up, then they will do something, but they won't. Also i thought COD 4 was pretty T rated and so was RF:G

I don't think there should be. Games are rated "M" for a reason, weather it be cussing, gore or (in Assassins Creed's case) mature, touchy themes.

Ya there should be for ones that are violent and some gore but no sexuality that you don't need to be 17 to buy.
No, there are thousands of movies rated "R" that have gore but no boobs. Kids shouldn't be allowed to see that when ever they please.

Off Topic - I hate parents that buy there 8 year old kids games rated "M" like World At War & RSV2. In no way are they mature enough to be seeing guys getting limbs blown off.

Quite a hard question to answer really. Over here in Sweden we have the PEGI ratings, 3+ 7+ 12+ 16+ and 18+. 18+ corresponding to "mature", thus eliminating the AO rating.

The problem as I see it is that the way the games are rated is too stale. As I get it it's a checklist where if the game contains/doesn't contain certain elements it gets a certain rating. While this is the only fair way to rate the games it also means some games are going to get a rating that makes most people scratch their heads. once you get over the 16+ rating it all becomes a confusing mess where games can differ very little but still have different ratings.

Personally, I think we need to ask ourselves why we have the rating in the first place. If we want to inform parents of the game's content then surely there must be a better way to do so. How about accompanying that age rating with some kind of color coding for the amount of violence or have us gamers offering them a helping hand (in some yet not thought of way).

Then there is the issue of nudity/sex pushing a rating higher then violence which I just can't wrap my head around.

I suppose a 15+ rating could be implemented, but it probably won't stop kiddies from swearing over Voice chat. (Yay Hypocrisy!)

The ESRB is weird about stuff already, it doesn't need another rating to make things stranger.

Nah. Should just be a warning on the back, in tiny print: Warning: Player may have fun playing this game due to reasons of Violence, Nudity, Suggestive Themes, Suggestive Violence, Skullfuckery, Douchebaggery, Aliens, Dicking Around, War, and or Abnomral Physiological Condtions.

Kind of makes it Shroddinger's Game, then, doesn't it? Game may or may not be fun until it's played?

Because violence is a normal, acceptable behaviour but having sex is disgusting and abhorrant?
It's because it's more normal that it worries people more.
